PLOW.
No, 349,75()l l Y' Patented Sept. 28, 1886L N, PETERS. Phnm-Lilhagmphnr. wmngmy, D c.
UNITED vSTATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDRIGK ROTHMUNT, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No; 349,750, dated September 28, 1886.
Application tiled February 23, 1886. Serial No. 192,920. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDRIOK RorHMUNT, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plows, of which the following is a specication.
It is a well-known fact that in the use of plows the parts known as the share,7 the neck or shield, and the landside are the rst portions to wear away, requiring the substitution of new parts before the plow is laid aside as useless; hence the object of my invention is to so construct these parts as to render them capable of being used a longer time than heretofore.
My invention also relates to a means for attaching the mold-board to the plow and strengthening its connection with the landside. I accomplish these objects by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis aside view of my improved plow with mold-board removed. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same. Fig. 3 is a section taken through the line .lv x, Fig. 2. Fig. 4E is a section taken through the line a: 1, Fig. 2, showing the connection of mold-board to the landside.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, A represents the neck or shield of my plow, which is made rounding outwardly, as at AX, in vertical sect-ion, Fig. 3. By this means the wear so incident upon that point is compensated for and the neck or shield will last a much longer period of time. The point of the plow is made thicker from its extreme outer point toits juncture with the outer portion of the neck or shield, as at B, Fig. 1, and gradually tapers to the end of the share, thus also compensating for the wear upon this part of the plow-point. The 'rear end of the neck or shield is provided with an extension-piece with lugs C, forming a square shoulder for the mold-board, and a means for bolting it to the neck piece or shield, as shown at D.
In order to compensate for the wearing away of the outer end of the' landside, this portion thereof is made thicker, as at E, and the landside is composed 'of two parts joined together by a lap-joint, as at F, so that when the rear -or outer portion is Worn away a new piece may be substituted for it, while the board or edge of the shoe Gr is tapering outward or backward from the jointed connection. with its counterpart.
In order to strengthen and support the divided landside, acurved strap, H, is bolted to it, and extends over toward the mold-board, at which point the upper end of a bent strap, I, is connected to it by bolts, while the lower end isconnected to a rod, J, bolted to the lower edge of the mold-board. The rod J is provided with a nut for adjustment ofthe parts. rIhus it will be seen that the parts of a plow that are most liable to excessive wear are fortified and means provided for supplying new parts for those that are worn out. l
Having thus describedmy invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
The combination of the neck or shield A, made rounding outwardly at AX, and provided rearwardly with an extension having lugs O, which form a shoulder, the mold-board secured by means of said shoulder, the plowpoint thickened from its outer extreme to its junction with the neck at B, the divided landside having a lap-joint, and means for attaching and adj usting the same to the mold-board, consisting of the bent strap H, bolted to the inner face of the rear portion of the landside, and connecting with the mold-board by means of the curved intermediate strap, I, and rod J, substantially as set forth and shown. l
In testimony that I claim the ,foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal.,
FREDRIOK EOTHMUNT. [Le] Vitnesses:
Luis MAKS, CHAs. E. KELLY.
