APPLICATION FILED JAN-22.1916.

Inventor Attorneys WILLIAM H. ALSTON', 0F TRO'U'P, TEXAS.
PLO w:
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 16, 1917.
Application filed January 22, 1916. Serial N 0. 73,724.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. ALs'roN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Troup, in the county of Smith and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Plow, of which'the following is a specification.
This invention relates to plows and more particularly to a shoe for the landside plate and landside bar of a plow whereby wear upon the landside plate is materially reduced and all wear of the landside bar is prevented.
A further object of the invention is to provide a shoe which is braced or reinforced by the landside plate so as to be held against buckling inwardly under the lateral pressure to which it is subjected.
Another object is to provide a shoe having integral means for securing it to the landside bar.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in .view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings Figure l is a sideelevation of a portion of a plow having the present improvements combined therewith.
Fig. 2 is an elevation showing the opposite side of the structure illustrated in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section on line AB Fig.2, said section being on an enlarged scale.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates a frog having a rearwardly extending landside bar 2 upon the outer face of which is arranged a landside plate 3. The landside plate has a straight lower edge located above the lower edge of the bar 2 so that a longitudinal rabbet 4 is thus formed along the lower edge of the landside plate and along the outer side of the bar 2. The landside plate is held to the bar 2 by means of bolts and these bolts are also designed to engage ears 6 formed with and extending upwardly from the inner side of the shoe 7. This shoe extends throughout the length of the bar 2 and bears upwardly against the bottom edge thereof, there being a rib 8 along the outer side of the upper edge of the shoe and which is adapted to fit snugly in the rabbet 4, thus to hold said shoe 7 against lateral movement inwardly away from the landside plate 3. Consequently the outer side of the shoe is maintained constantly in the same plane with the outer face of the landside plate and said shoe not only serves to materially reduce the wear upon the landside plate and prevent wear on the landside bar but is also held against buckling inwardly by reason of the lap along the lower edge of the land side bar 2. lVhen the bolts 5 are secured in position the parts are securely held together and cannot become disarranged.
It will be obvious that the shoe can be readily detached when worn or broken and a new one substituted therefor.
What is claimed is In a plow, the combination with a frog and a landside bar extending rearwardly therefrom, of a landside plate on the outer side of the bar and having its lower edge above the lower edge of the bar and parallel therewith to form a longitudinal groove or rabbet, a shoe fitted under the landside bar and having an upwardly extending longitudinal rib on its outer portion lapping the outer side of the landside bar and engaging the lower edge of the landside plate, the outer faces of the shoe and plate being flush, ears extending upwardly from the shoe and fitting snugly against the inner side of the bar, and means extending through each ear, the bar and the plate for detachably secur ing the parts together.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM H. ALSTON.
