IMPROVEMENT IN PLOUGH LAND-SIDE.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JEROME BACON, of Medina, in the county of Outogzimie, and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and improved Plough Lend-Side; .and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those slcilled in the art to make and uso the some, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speoification.
This invention has reference to an improvement in ploughs, and especially in the manner of constructing the land-side, whereby it is made ndjustuhle, and rendered much more durable than the ordinary kind; and it consists in forming the land-side with an adjustable shoe,-whereby not only the land-side but the plough-pointisrcndered more durable, as will be hereinafter described. 7
Figure 1 is a longitudinal inside view of my land-side, showing the sho e, and the manner in which it is made adjustable. I
Figure 2 iso back end view of the sauie.
Similar letters 0i reference indicate corresponding ports. p
A represents the-land-side, B is theshoe. C represents ears on the shoe, which lap up on to the landsidc, andwhich have slot-holes through their upper ends, to allow the back end of the shoe to drop down. (1 represents these slot-holes. v I
The shoe is held in place by screw-bolts, the heads of which are countersunk into the land-side, (upon the outside.) The screw-nuts on the bolts are seen at e. p
D is a section of the plough-handle, and'E is a. loop, by which the handleis attached to the land-side.
In use, the principal wear comes upon the shoe B, which is removable at pleasure, and at slight expense, thus savingthe land-side almost entirely from wear.
The shoe is halved on to the land-side, as seen by the dotted line in fig. 1, and ntf, in fig. 2, so that it is secured to the land-side by the care C and screw-bolts, as seen in the drawing, thus receiving the whole weight and wear of the back part of the plough. I i
The shoe is made adjustable, or so that its back end can be dropped down, which is allowed by the slot d. This is for the purpose of altering the pitch of the plouglrwheri the point of the plough becomes worn.
By this arrangement a worn-out point, which would otherwise be thrown aside, can be used to good I advantage.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure-by Letters Patent-r- 1. The cars C, attached to the shoe B,by which the shoe is secured to the lend-side, thus relieving the rear of the land-side frorn all weight and weor, suhstantia.lly as described.-
2. The slots (2, in the ears C, by which the shoe is made nd'ustztble, substantially as end for; the purpose set forth.
The adjustable shoe )5, applied to o. lend-side, A, in the manner described, and provided with ears C, having slots cl, adapted to fit over bolts 0, fixed in the land-side, A, substantially as and forjthe purpose herein set forth.
JEROME BACON.
