UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY W. BUSCHEMEYER, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
DENTAL TOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 349,338, dated September 21, 1886.
Application filed July 19, 1886. Serial No. 5103.482. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY W. BUSOHE- MEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Dentists Operating Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construct-ion and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of the specification.
This my invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in dental devices for operating saws and files used by dentists in separating, cutting off, cleaning, and polishing teeth, and also for condensing gold or composition filling and other similar purposes, consisting of asmall metal case of the required size and form, with the requisite mechanism arranged therein to operate it, which may be done by any suitable means that will give it the required motion.
The object of this my invention is to provide an improved device for operating saws or files used by dentists in separating, cutting off, cleaning, and polishing teeth, that is susceptible of being changed to cut in any direction, and at the same time avoid injuring the checks or walls'of the mouth and other teeth. I attain the above object by the mechanism illustrated in the drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device, showing the case closed up ready for use. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the interior arrangement of the operating mechanism there- Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the adjustable guard to prevent injury to the mouth. Fig. 4 is a top view of the angle end of the case, showing the file-opening in the follower and the slide-tube in which it works.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In the drawings, A represents the case, which is made of metal, and in form as shown in the drawings, with one side hinged at the bottom, so as to open in order to adjust the interior mechanism.
B is an adjustable guard inserted in sockets C O at alternate corners, near the end of the angle part, to prevent injuring the cheek or walls of the mouth in its operation.
D is a small spindle working loosely in bear-- ings E E in the inside of the case, to answer as a driver to operate the several devices, which may be done by any suitable means giving it the required high rate of speed.
F is a small disk-pulley on the end of spindle D, to answer as a crank to operate the file or saw mechanism.
G is a pitman or link connecting the crank F with the file-holder H, which works in the tube-formed slide I, secured to the end of the case. This file-holder H is so arranged as to set the file at any required angle, and it is held in position by a set-screw, J, at the end, having a slot to receive it.
'K is the file or saw in position, as shown, and is operated reciprocally by the spindle D. Therefore what I claim as my invention,
and desire to secure by Letters Patent in den-
