I.' W. MARTINI.-
PICTURE EXHIBITOR.
No. 349,114. Patented sept. 14, 1886.
HIHIIIIIIIIIIIIIHIIIIIHIIHHIIHIIIIIIHIII UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE..
FREDERICK IV'. MARTINI, OF BROOKLYN, NEV YORK.
- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent-N0. 349,114, dated September 14, 1886.
Application filed July 25, 1885. Serial No.17i223. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 4I,FR11DERICK W. MAE- TINI, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Exhibitors, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to improvements in,
picture-exhibitors or photograph albums of that class in which a number of leaves are hinged to a supporting-frame and adapted to be folded away in the same, so that the album may be placed on the parlor-table or hung to the wall; and the invention consists of a photograph-album having a supportingframe with a depressed panel and side strips with inclined faces, to which latter are hinged by muslin or other strips of different width a series of leaves, which fold one over the other into the depressed panel, and are iinally iuclosed by a hinged cover having a suitable locking device. f
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a perspective view of my improvedv photograph-album, showing itin inclined and closed position. Fig. 2 is a front View of the same, showing it in open position, Fig. 3, a vertical longitudinal section on li-ne rv a', Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 isa vertical transverse section through one of the sidestrips of the album, drawn on a larger scale. y
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, A represents the supporting-frame of myimproved photograph-album. The frame A is made of square or other shape and provided with an exterior molding, a, and a depressed panel, b, within which a series of album-leaves, B B, are stored away, and nally inclosed by a cover, C, that is hinged at one side to the frame A and locked to the other side by a suitable fastening device, d d. The frame A is provided with screw Yeyes or rings at its upper rear part, by which the photograph-album may be hung to nails or other supports on the wall; also with a hinged rear brace, A,which is retained on the back of the frame A by suitable catches when thel frame is not desired to be supported in inclined position. The hinged brace and its retaining devices have been used heretofore, and I do not claim the same.
rIhe side strips, a', of the raised molding a of the frame A are provided with beveled or inclined faces, to which are applied the album- 5 5 leaves B .B by means of hinge-strips e e, of muslin or other suitable material. The'hingestrips e e are preferably stitched onto a layer,
e', of muslin, that is glued to the face of each side strip, a', the hinge-strips being made of 6o different width, according as the leaves are hinged nearer to the upper or lower part of the side strips, a. The lowermost albumleaf B of each strip has. the Widest hingestrip, while the uppermost album-leaf has the narrowest hinge-strip. This facilitates the ready folding of the leaves B into the depressed panel b of the frame A, and also the regular folding of the leaves in outward position, as the hinge-strips assume a position 7o at right angles to the frame A and leaves, as shown in Figs. 3 and i.
For closing the album the leaves B B are alternately folded from opposite sides, one over the other, and when all have been placed into the depressed panel b the hinged cover C is closed and locked. For opening the album the cover is turned into open position and one leaf after the other turned alternately either to the right or tol the left, according So as they are hinged to the right or left hand strip a', until all have been turned into open position, as shown in Fig. 2. The under side of the cover C, as well as the bottom of the depressed panel b, is also provided with leaves for the insertion of pictures.
The photograph-album forms a convenient receptacle for storing and exhibiting photographs, and can be used as an ornamental device for the parlor-table, mantel-piece, or Wall, 9o especially when it is properly finished in plush, leather, or other materials.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of a supporting-frame, having'a depressed panel and beveled side strips, and a series of leaves hinged by strips of different width to the beveled side strips, substantially as set forth. y
2. ,The combination of a supporting-frame roo having n depressed panel and beveled side In testimony that I claim the foregoing as strips, :t series of leaves hinged by hinge my invention I have Signed lnynmne in presstrips of different Width to said side strips, ence of two subscribing Witnesses.
and :t cover hinged to one side of the support- FREDERICK \V. MARTINI.
5 ing-frame and retained by :L locking device I Vitnesses:
:it the other side7 so as to inelose the folded ERNST IVOL'FV, leaves, substantially as set forth. SIDNEY MANN.
