Description

Jan. 13, 1970 D. H. HOOVER DIAPER CHANGER BAG Filed April 22, 1968 @f FIG. 5
.m R V mo mw Y W M Y m u/H T O A R 0 D Y B m H 4 /2 United States Patent O 3,489,194 DIAPER CHANGER BAG Dorothy H. Hoover, Youngstown, Ohio, assignor to Frandee Corporation, Youngstown, Ohio, a corporation of Ohio Filed Apr. 22, 1968, Ser. No. 722,858 Int. Cl. A45c 11/24 U.S. Cl. 150-1 4 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A foldable cushioned pad on which a plurality of diapers may be positioned and folded for carrying with slide fasteners on the sides and handles on the ends to form a compact brief case resembling unit. A separate inside pouch for bottles, powder, and soiled diapers fits within the foldable pad. When opened, the cushioned pad with the diapers provides a bed-like diapering station.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a baby accessory device that, when opened, provides a convenient clean cushioned diapering station for a baby and when closed, serves to form a container for clean diapers, bottles, powder and a pouch in which soiled diapers and other clothing may be positioned. The problem of providing necessary diaper changes for an infant particularly when the infant is away from home, has long been present. Various proposals have heretofore been made primarily with respect to providing a closure in which diapers, bottles, powder, etc., could be placed at random. Such devices, while making available the necessary supplies fail to provide any particular diapering station leaving to chance the location of a suitable place for positioning the baby while changing the diaper.
The present invention solves the problems by providing both a means for carrying the necessary supplies and a clean cushioned pad on which the baby can be positioned during the changing procedure.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which Will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being the intention to cover all changes and modifications of the example of the invention herein chosen for purposes of the disclosure, which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the diaper changer bag in closed portable condition.
FIGURE 2 shows the bag opened to form a diaper changing station.
FIGURE 3 is a perspective view of the pouch enclosed within the bag for carrying bottles, powder and soiled diapers.
FIGURE 4 is a perspective view of a waterproof sheet used with the diaper changer bag and FIGURE 5 is a perspective view of a waterproof 3,489,194 Patented Jan. 13, 1970 plastic pouch in which soiled diapers can be positioned and then enclosed in diaper changer bag.
FIGURE 6 is a cross section on line 6 6 of FIG- URE 2.
By referring to the drawings in FIGURES 1 and 2 in particular, it will be seen that the diaper changer bag comprises a rectangular section of cushioned material of an overall size sufficient to form a diapering station. The length of the rectangular section of cushion material is therefore longer than the infant to be placed thereon and its width is equally wider than the area to be occupied by the infant. The rectangular section of cushioned material comprises a cover 10 of fabric arranged to be folded transversely on a crease line 11, as seen in FIG- URE 2 of the drawings and which crease line 11 forms the right end of the bag, as seen in FIGURE 1 of the drawings, or the bottom thereof when the same is carried by a pair of handles 12 which are secured one to each of the ends of the cover fabric 10. A section of looped material 13 enclosing a ring 14 is attached to the cover material 10 adjacent one of the handles 12 and is provided with a fastener 15 so that it can be positioned over the other section of cover material and secured in position by a matching fastener, not shown, as seen in FIGURE 1 of the drawings. The opposite sides of the rectangular section of cover material 10 are provided with slide fasteners 16 with the normal closed end of the slide fastener tapes positioned in opposed oppositely spaced relation from one another on the transverse fold line 11. Thus, when the slide fastener mechanisms 17 are moved to their end position adjacent the transverse fold line 11, the diaper changer bag can be opened out to its full rectangular shape, as seen in FIGURE 2 of the drawings, and when they are closed, the diaper changer bag resembles a briefcase both in appearance and size.
By referring specifically to FIGURE 2 of the drawings, it will be seen that the opened diaper changer bag forms a convenient and practical diapering station and that it is provided with a section of fabric 18, three edges of which, as indicated by the numerals 19, 20 and 21, are sewed directly to the in turned edges of the cover material 10 inwardly of the slide fasteners 16 and the fourth edge is secured by a secondary slide fastener 22 to an in turned end portion 23 of the cover material 10. The slide fastener 22 normally closes the only access opening to the interior of the envelope thus formed of the sheet of fabric 18 and the cover material 10 and provides for positioning a rectangular section of polyurethane foam 24 or other cushioning material as seen in FIGURE 6 of the drawings in the device to provide a suitable cushion therefor. The foam material is therefore capable of being removed so that the entire diaper bag can be washed. The open diapering station as seen in FIGURE 2 of the drawings provides a convenient and practical location and means of carrying a plurality of dry diapers by simply laying them on the fabric sheet 18 in generally opened condition where they will occupy a minimum space and add to the cushioning of the diapering station when a baby is positioned thereon.
By referring now to FIGURE 3 of the drawings, it will be seen that a separate pouch 25 is provided which includes a slide fastener 26 closing its open edge portion. The pouch 25 is divided by transverse rows of stitching into several compartments, one of which may be used for babies bottles, another for baby powder and a third for other supplies or for receiving soiled diapers which are rst placed in a waterproof bag 27, which may be seen in folded position in FIGURE 5.
In FIGURE 4 of the drawings a folded rectangular section of waterproof sheeting 2S may be seen and if desired, this may be removed from the pouch 25 and placed on the diapering station when an infant is to be :hanged. These several items consisting of the Waterproof sheet 28, the waterproof diaper bag 27, and the pouch 25 in which they are normally carried all t within the folded diapering bag, as seen in FIGURE 1 of the drawings along with a plurality of diapers so that the entire needs of an infant are conveniently and easily transported thereby.
It will thus be seen that a simple and eicient diaper :hanger bag has been disclosed which meets the objects 3f the invention and having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A diaper changer bag comprising a rectangular section of cover material, a smaller rectangular section of :ushion material positioned thereon and a rectangular section of sheet material secured to said cover material i0 as to enclose said cushion material, releasable fastener means along opposite edges of said rectangular section Jf material for holding said section in transversely folded Josition dening a pocket like container open at one end, `nandles secured to said section of material adjacent said apen end and a supply carrying pouch having closure neans of a size positionable within said pocket like container.
