LABEL Eon MAIL-BAGS.
Speccation of Letters Patent No. 3,486, dated March 13, 1844.
To all whom may concern Be it known that I, OREN S. NoRTI-I, of New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented anew and useful Label for Mail-Bags, Sac.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the con-` struction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of the following specification.
Figure l, represents the label in perspective; E E two pieces of brass having the nalne New York, cutor engraved on one, and Auburn, on the other; F F double hinge joint, by means of which it can be brought parallel, presenting either side out; A A, rings through which the staple of the lock passes to hold them together.
` To use this label, it is only necessary to be reversed at each end of the route, presenting the naine to which the mail is going. For instance, the Inail bag is going to Auburn; that name is out; if returning the naine New York is made to present itself, &e.
That I claim is,- Uniting two labelsby a joint, for the purpose described, using therefor the double hinge joint, or any of the known modes of effecting the same end.
