SHUTTER-FASTEN ER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 348,622, dated September 7, 1886.

Be it known that 1, JOHN B. DAvIs, a citizen of the United States, residing in the township of \Vesthampton, in the county of Burlington and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful VVindow- Shutter Holder, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in window-shutter holders, and the object of my improvements are, first, to be self-acting in receiving and holding the shutter when opened; second, to hold the shutter tight and securely and prevent it from rattling, banging, or making any noise whatever; third, to hold the shutter securely until unfastened. I attain these objects by the proper adjustment of weight illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical view of the entire holder as it appears when the shutter is open and held by it; Fig. 2, a vertical view of the entire holder as it appears when the shutter is closed and the holder stands open.

In Fig. 1 an iron plate, D, is fastened to the building by the pin 0 with screw-extension. The catch A, which holds the shutter, is fastened in the jaws of the pin 0- by a small pin. The forks of the catch A hold the shutter in place, and can be adapted to the thickness of the shutter, so as to hold it tight and prevent it from rattling, banging, or making any noise whatever. The catch A, when the holder is closed, is held in place by means of the lobe B dropping down and resting by its own weight against the plate D, thus extending the bottom of the catch A out until the back fork also rests against the plate D, in which position it is firmly held by the construction and weight of the lobe B. The lobe B must be raised to open the holder.

In Fig. 2 the lobe B is raised, and by the proper adjustment of weight in the catch A the holder stands open. The lobe B is raised, when the holder is closed, by pressing on the outer end.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a shutter-fastener, the combination, with a Y-shaped catch, A, having a brace or lobe, B, attached to the lower portion or stem there- .of, of screw-threaded extension-pin G, to which said catch is pivoted, and the plate D, to which 5 5 said pin is attached, substantially as described.
