Definitions
- the present invention relates to a toilet paper roll comprising one or more layers of paper, in which the end of the outer layer is connected with the nearest inner paper layer or layers.
- the present invention furthermore concerns a method of producing a toilet paper roll of this type.
- FIGURE 1 diagrammatically illustrates a toilet paper roll which has the width of a plurality of normal toilet paper rolls
- FIGURE 2 shows the position of a thread or cord wound around the wide paper roll of FIGURE 1 and also indicates the lines along which the wide paper roll is to be cut to paper rolls of normal size;
- FIGURE 3 shows an individual toilet paper roll according to the present invention.
- the toilet paper roll according to the present invention is characterized primarily in that a thread, string or band is placed over the paper end and the next inner winding and is glued to said two parts, said thread, string or band being detachable from said roller without damaging the same.
- the thread, string or band is made of water soluble material as, for instance, polyvinyl alcohol or methyl cellulose or polyethylene oxide.
- the adhesive connecting the thread, string or band to the toilet paper roll may consist of a water soluble glue with low water content mainly on a starch jelly basis.
- an adhesive covered string or band is spirally wound upon a toilet paper roll having the width of a plurality of toilet paper rolls of normal width.
- This spiral winding of the thread, string I or band is such that at least approximately a full winding
- string or band will cross the end of the paper web of the normal width of a paper roll at about half the width of the paper roll. However, if it is particularly advantageous for packing the individual rolls, the crossing of the end of the paper web by the thread, string or band may be effected at the end of the normal width of an individual roll.
- the paper roll 1 shown in FIG. 1 comprises a core 1a of cardboard or the like in the form of a cylinder or a tube and a paper web wound around said core, the end 2 of said paper web being located on the next inner winding 3.
- the edge 4 of the paper web end is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the roll 1 which latter has a width amounting to a plurality of the width of a normal toilet paper roll.
- Such wide paper rolls for the manufacture of individual toilet papers are known.
- a string, thread or band 5 is spirally wound around said paper roll 1.
- This thread, string or band 5 is connected to the end 2 of the paper web and to the next inner winding 3 by means of a glue or adhesive which is preferably water soluble.
- the thread, string or band 5 is water soluble.
- the spiral windings of the thread, string or band 5 placed around the roller 1 are so arranged that at least one approximately complete winding, i.e. a winding over 360 extends over the width, which width corresponds to the width of a normal toilet paper roll as it will be out later from the roll 1.
- the paper roll 1 has a plurality of numbers of thread, string or band windings which correspond to the number of individual rolls into which the paper roll 1 will be cut by cuts executed in the direction of the arrows 6.
- each individual roll will have the shape illustrated in FIG. 3 with the thread, string or band 5 being wound by a complete winding, i.e. 360 about the individual roll.
- the crossing point 8 of the thread, string or band with the edge 4 of the end of the individual paper web is located approximately at the central portion M of the individual roll.
- the string, thread or band may be placed around the paper roll 1 in such a way that a plurality of windings are located on a single paper roll.
- the opening of an individual paper roll according to FIG. 3 is effected by grasping one of the ends 9 or 10, preferably the end 9, and by detaching said string, thread or band 5 from the paper roll without tearing the paper. It will be appreciated that when the end 9 of the thread, string or band 5 is grasped and removed in the direction of the arrow K from the paper web, the latter can be used completely without destroying the same.
- the detached string thread or band may be discarded through the toilet where they will be dissolved together with the glue, which may likewise be water soluble.
- thread means as it appears herein also covers a cord, band or the like.
- a paper roll having the outer end of its paper web connected to the paper web winding directly therebelow, which includes thread means detachably extending adhesively only over said outer end and said paper web winding directly therebelow and holding the same together directly restrictive therebetween.
- a method of connecting the outer end of the paper web of a plurality of axially joined paper rolls to the paper web winding directly below said end which includes the steps of: preparing a collective paper roll having a width substantially equalling n times the standard width of a single paper roll, n being an even number, winding thread means around and detachably connecting the same to the thus made over-size paper roll so that said thread means passes n times over an angle of approximately 360 while extending approximately from one end face of said paper roll to approximately the other end face thereof, and subsequently cutting said over-size paper roll to individual paper rolls of standard width 6.
