A toilet paper roll consists of a single or a multi-ply paper band, with the outer end of the paper band attached to the next inner layer, characterized in that there is laid over the end of the paper and the next inner layer of the roll, a cord, tape or thread which is stuck to these two parts and is detachable without damaging the parts. Preferably the cord, tape, or thread and the adhesive which connects the cord, tape or thread to the roll, consists of materials which are soluble in water. A method of manufacture which may be used comprises winding the cord, tape or thread, which is provided with adhesive, in the form of a spiral around a paper roll which is several times as wide as an individual roll in such a way that at least one approximately complete turn (360 degrees) is guided over the width. of a roll and the broad paper roll is divided into individual rolls.
