Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN D. EHLERS, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, AND JAMES P. HERRON, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PAN-TALOONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 34,635, dated March 11, 1862.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN D. EHLERS, of Baltimore city, in the State of Maryland, and
JAMES P. HERRON, of Washington city, in the structing pantaloons, dro., with a posteriorv fall for easy evacuation, buttoning on the waist around the small of the back, and opening on each side to the protuberance of thc v when marching or on duty, and also exposing the body, and in the winter season cooling and chilling and disarranging the whole dress and consuming time, dac.
As very deleterious effects are produced from neglecting evacuation at the time nature dictates, great injury is done the system, the effects of which are seen frequently among soldiers in .instances of costiveness, diarrhea, stomach derangement, cramps, weakness of the eyes, indisposition, dac., as also complained of among mechanics, factors, and persons of sedentary habits, as well as soldiers conned to duty and military equipage, &c. For the benefit of all such persons and to enable others skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
We construct our pantaloons, either civil or military, with the open fly or fall in front. The posterior or back part, from the gluteous around the buttock or rump to the small of the back or waist, is a fall buttoning at each side C C and in the middle of the back at F (and also may be but-toned at ff and opening at each side E E from the first waistmeasure c c to the trochanter major, the hipjoint or second waist-measure D D used as an easy hasty relief for evacuation.
A A shows the Waist of the pants extend ing down and under B B, the back and rear fall to the dotted line arching from below D D, Figure 1, or more fully set forth in Fig. 2.
B B shows the hind or rear part of the pants, extending over the rump and lapping on the waist part A A, buttoning at C F C, (and also may button at ff,) forming a fall opening at each side E E as low as D D to admit the buttock passing through and out, as seen, Fig. 2.
C F C shows the buttoning of the fall on the waist A A. f f are buttonholes that may be used between C F C.
D D shows the lower end of the opening of the fall at the side to trochanter major or protuberance of the hip-joint.
E E shows the side or opening from-the waist C C, closing at D D, dac.
The rear fall may be so arranged as to button under a front fall or lappet, or over, as desired. t
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The construction ot' pantaloons and drawers in making a fall B on the posterior portion thereof and securing the Vsame to the waistA` of the pantaloons or drawers, sub stantially as described.
