NITED STATES PATENT Fries.
GARRET G. ACKERSON, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
CORSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersPatent No. 346,339, dated July 27, 1886.
Applicat on filed January 30, 1886.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GARRET G. ACKEI s n, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Hissouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Corsets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, referenee being bad to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved article in form for ladies wear. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail. horizontal section.
My invention relates to an article to be worn next to the person, for the purpose of admitting a free circulation of air next to the body, under the clothing.
My invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the body of the corset, provided with shoulderstraps B. It is constructed of encircling-bands O, united by longitudinally-flexible strips D, so that it will accommodate itself to the body of the wearer. Each of the encircling-bands 0 consists of a corrugated strip, F, of any suitable material, inclosed by outer covers, G, of suitable fabric or other material. The flutes or grooves in the corrugated material run Serial No. 190,235. (No mo'lcl.)
crosswise of the bands C, and extend from end to end, so as to admit of a tree circulation of air, the article being inside of the clothing of the person, and holding the clothing away from the upper part of the body, over which it fits.
I am aware that a corrugated strip has been employed in bodywvear in a variety of ways, for the purpose of aiding the circulation of air about the body of the wearer, and do not claim such, broadly, as my invention.
I claim as my inventionlhe improved corset consisting of a number of independent encircling-bands, 0, connected by longitudinally-tlexiblc strips 1), which allow the bands to adjust themselves with relat-ion to each other to lit the length of the body of the wearer, each band C consisting of a corrugated strip, F, having flutes running crosswise of its length, and outer smooth pieces, G, iuclosing the corrugated strip, the whole being arranged substantially as described, whereby a circulation of air may be had through the article to ventilate the body of the wearer, as explained.
