Definitions

  • This invention relates to the safety of the slay with resilient crank arms in looms and more particularly to the protection of the said slay against any detrimental stress from the sudden stop of the loom by the contact between the buffers integral with the slay and the stops integral with the loom frame.
  • Another object of the present invention is also to provide this safety device without any complication and without introducing any delicate part.
  • Another object of the present invention is to provide a mechanical combination which is both strong and greatly flexible.
  • This safety device is essentially characterized in that it comprises a mechanical combination of the proper slay at least one end of which is linked, the conventional crank-shaft, at least two resilient crank arms between the said slay and the said crank-shaft and a rigid crank arm located between the said linked end or ends of the slay and the corresponding end or ends of the said crank-shaft.
  • crank arms When both ends of the slay are linked, two rigid crank arms will be used, namely one at each of the said ends of the crank-shaft.
  • the different constituting elements of this combination forming the safety device are essentially varying in accordance with the intended loom construction.
  • the elements of the combination may be elements known 3,460,586 Patented Aug. 12,1969
  • FIGURE 1 shows as diagrammatically as possible the safety device according to the invention
  • FIGURE 2 shows diagrammatically another embodiment of FIGURE 1
  • FIGURE 3 shows a perspective view of a loom portion representing the constituting elements of the safety device of the invention in the example of FIGURE 2;
  • FIGURES 4 and 5 show, on an enlarged scale and in two characteristic positions, the portion indicated at F4 in FIGURE 2, completed by stops and buffers.
  • FIGURE 1 shows diagrammatically the most simple characteristic combination forming the safety device according to the invention.
  • This combination comprises the slay 1, at least one end portion 2, which includes the shuttle box at that end, being pivotally linked to the central slay portion at 3, the crank-shaft 4, the resilient crank arms 5-6 connecting the said slay 1 to the said crank-shaft 4 and a rigid crank arm 7 connecting the crank-shaft 4 to the said linked end 3 of the slay.
  • FIGURE 2 shows exactly the same elements, wherein the slay 1 has two linked end portions 2'- respectively or 3'-3" at the corresponding ends of the slay 1.
  • the adjoining faces 8-9 or 8-9 are slightly diverging to leave therebetween an angular space a the value of which may be, e.g. about 5.
  • FIGURE 3 shows also diagrammatically the buffers and stops 10-11 and 10'-11 respectively, which may be made as known.
  • a protective device for slays operating with resilient crank arms comprising a slay having a central portion and two end portions at least one end portion is pivotally secured to said central slay portion, a crankshaft, at least two resilient crank arms between said central slay portion and said crank-shaft and a rigid crank arm between the said linked end portion and the corresponding end of the said crank-shaft.
  • a device characterized in that, both end portions of the slay are linked and a rigid crank arm is provided between the crank-shaft and each end portion of the slay.
  • a device characterized in that the angular space forms an angle of between 3 to 8".
