JULIUS AUGUST NOBER, OF BOLIVAR, NEW YORK.
VEST SEAM-PROTECTO SPECIFICATION lforming part of Letters Patent No. 345,64-6, dated July 13, 1886.
(No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ULIUs AUGUsT N oBER, of Bolivar, in the county of Allegany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vest Seam-Protectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being` had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in vest seam-protectors; and it consists in a protector which is made from a strip of any snit able material, and which is applied to the top of the lower portion of the armhole of a vest or other garment, and which protector is made thickest at its top or central portion and thin` nest at i-ts outer edges, and is connected to the vest by eyelets and stitches, or either one alone, as may be preferred, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
The object of myinvention is to produce a protector which is to beapplied to the top of the lower portion of the arrnhole of a vest or other garment for the purpose of 4preventing the seam or the material of the vest from becoming injured by a constant movement of the arms, as is always the case where this portion of the vest is left unprotected.
Figure l shows a side elevation of a protector embodying` my invention as applied to a vest. Fig. 2 is avertical section of the same.
A represents a vest, which is made in the usual manner; B, the protector, which is applied to the top edge ofthe lower portion of the arrnhole and directly over the vertical seam C, as shown.
This protector will be made of rubber, leather, or other suitable material, and may be lined or not, as desired,
The protector Is made from a fiat strip of suitable material, which is made thickest at its center or top portion, and made tapering on its inner sides from its center out toward lthe edges. The edges are made very thin and purpose of forming a hollow space at the top, lso as to adapt the protector to be applied to garments of different thicknesses.
This protector is fastened to the vest by a number of eyelets, l, and two or more rows of stitches, J, or by eyelets alone, or by stitches alone, as may be preferred.
In order to make it easier to sew the prof tector to the vest, grooves or creases may be formed in the sides thereof, if so desired.
The strips of material out of which the protector is to be formed will be modeled so as to conform exactly to the shape of the armhole, as shown.
Where a protector like what is here shown is applied to the top edge of the lower portion of the armhole, this portion of thevest is prevented from becoming worn andthe seam from ripping, owing to the constant wear that is brought tobear upon it by the movement of the arm.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- A vest seam-protector formed from a strip of suitable material, which is bent double and secured to the armhole-opening over the top edge of the side seam thereof, which strip is made thickest at its center, and which tapers in thickness from its center outward to its edges, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JULIUS AUGUST NOBER.
