FELT BOOT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 34%,613, dated 29, 1386.
(No model.)
To (tZZ whom, it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, DEMPS'IER Benrrv, of Mishawaka, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Felt Boots; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this sp eei fication.
My invention relates to an improvement in felt boots; and it consists in a strip of any suitable material, which isapplied to the rear side of the leg of the boot at orjust abovethe heel, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
Ihe object of my invention is to apply a strip of any suitable material to the rear side of a felt boot at that point where the strain comes upon it in drawing the boot upon the foot, and thus not only strengthen the boot at this point, but at the same time form a loop, by means of which the boot can be drawn on and pulled from the foot.
The accompanying drawing represents a perspective of a felt boot to which my inven tion is applied.
A represents a felt boot of any suitable construction, to the rear side of which the leather strap or re-enforce B is stitched or sewed. The stitching does not extend along the edges of the strap its full length, but it does extend around the ends and across thestrap, as shown. In between the two parts of the stitching by means of which the strap is secured to the boot, is left a suffieient space to form a fingerloop, D, into which a finger or a book of any kind can be inserted for the purpose of drawing the boot on or off of the foot. Felt boots, owing to the strain caused by the heel in forcing the foot into the boot, break or tear first at theheels and then bccomepracticall y Worthless. Ihis strap B serves not only to strengthen and re-enforce the boot at this point, for the purpose of preventing it from breaking,
but also serves as a means of assisting in pulling the boot off and on the foot.
I am aware that rubber loops have been secured to the heels of rubber shoes, and this I disclaim. My invention differs from this in applying a leather loop to the rear side of a felt boot, and at a point above theheel, where the boot needs reenforcing to prevent it from breaking.
Having thus described my invention, I claim A felt boot provided with a lB-GllfOI'CG, of the character substantially as described, applied to the rear ankle portion, a section of which serves as a loop or handle to assist in drawing the boot upon the foot, substantially as set forth. e
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DEMPSTER BEATTY.
