D01g 9/ 00 U.S. Cl. 19-129 ABSTRACT OF 'IHE DISCLOSURE A faller bar for use in textile fiber drafting apparatus known as gill boxes or pin drafters, the bar being of selflubricating material and provided with a longitudinal edge rib which substantially eliminates or reduces the clearance between successive bars and thus reduces bending of the bars in operation without interfering with the relative movement ofthe bars.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Field of the invention This invention relates to faller bars for textile fiber or sliver treatment inthe preparation of yarns.
Description of the prior art The faller bars heretofore employed have been of metal and in use are exed between their ends to a considerable extent. This not only tends to shorten the life of the bar but also makes the relative motion of the bars and operation of the driving mechanism more diflicult.
Summary of the invention' It is the principal object of the present invention to provide an improvement in faller bars and with which better operation is made available.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide an improved faller bar which is simple in construction, light in weight and with which the handling of the bar in drafting is greatly facilitated.
Other objects and advantageous features of the invention will be apparent from the description and claims.
Brief description of the drawing The nature and characteristic features of the invention will be more clearly understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings froming part thereof, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of pin draft mechanism having the faller bar of the invention incorporated therein;
FIG. 2 is an exploded perspective of upper and lower faller bars in accordance with the invention;
FIG. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken approximately on the line 3 3 of FIG. 2;
FIG. 4 is an end elevational view of the bars shown in FIG. 2;
FIG. 5 is a view similar to the lower part of FIG. 3 showing another suitable cross section;

It should, of course, be understood tha the description and drawings herein are illustrative merely, and that various modications and changes can be made in the structure disclosed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now more particularly to the drawing in FIG. 1 there is illustrated a longitudinal sectional view of a gill box or pin drafter 10 of well known type for which the faller bar to be described is particularly suitable.
The gill box or pin drafter 10 preferably includes a frame 11 with draft rolls (not shown), a lower return screw 15 on a shaft 16, a lower drive or lead screw 17 on a shaft 18, an upper drive or lead screw 19 on a shaft 20, and upper return screw 21 on a shaft 22, together with gearing 23 for driving the shafts 16, 18, 20 and 22, and transfer cams (not shown).
Each faller bar 30 comprises a body portion 31 having pins 32 secured therein, in any desired manner, and relieved as at 33 for pin clearance.
The ends 34 of the bars are formed with screw followers 35, in a well known manner to ride in the screw and guide notches 36 to assist in guiding the bars 30 at their ends 34 and upon transfer between their respective driving and return screws 15 and 17, and 19 and 21.
The bars 30 in accordance with the present invention are preferably of a self-lubricating material, such as nylon, ywhich preferably has incorporated therein between 20%-50% glass iibers approximately long to add stiffness, increase the impact strength and enhance the wearing qualities.
In accordance with the present invention, also, each of the bars 30 has along one side face thereof a rib 40 which as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 includes intersecting faces 41 and 42 with a connecting let 43.
In FIGS. 5, 6 and 7 other suitable cross sections of bodies of bars 30 are shown. In FIG. 5, a rib 40a with a curved face 45 is shown,- and in FIG. 6, a rib 40b with a curved face 46 is shown of different coniiguration.
In FIG. 7, the rib 40a is shown as along the opposite side margin from that of FIGS. 2 to 6, inclusive, and with a different shape from that of FIGS. 2 to 4, inclusive.
In use the faller Ibars are impelled from one end to the other end by the upper and lower driving screws 19 and 17, and returned by the upper and lower return screws 21 and 15 in the manner customary in pin drafting apparatus.
The use of the ribs 40, 40a, 40b, or 40e reduces the flexing between ends of the faller bars 30 by reducing the space between bars 30 which is available for flexing. At the same time the vertical movement of the faller bars 30 for transfer is facilitated, not only by reason of the reduction of friction between bars 30, but by the guiding which is elfected by the ribs 40, 40a, 40h and 40e.
It will thus be seen that faller bars have been provided with which the objects of the invention have 'been attained.
I claim:
1. A faller bar comprising an elongated body of synthetic plastic material having ends and a central body portion between said ends with parallel pins projecting therefrom,
said ends having screw follower portions,
said Ibody having along a side edge face thereof an integral rigid rib with Ia side guiding contact face portion projecting outwardly from said body intermediate the top and bottom thereof for engagement with a contiguous faller bar.
2. A faller bar as defined in claim 1 in which said body portion is of a self lubricating material.
3. A faller bar as dened in claim 1 in which said material has a stiifener component incorporated therein.
4. A faller bar as defined in claim l in which said rib includes at least one longitudinally extending inclined at face.
5. A faller bar as defined in claim 1 in which said rib has at least one longitudinally extending curved face.
