NUT-LOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 341,469, dated May 11, 1886.
Application filed March 6, 1886. Serial No. 194,226. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN B. FLUETTE, of Lewiston. in the county of Androscoggin and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nut-Locks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertainsto make and use the same, reference bei ng had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a side sectional elevation of one side of my improved locking-nut. Fig. 2 is a side sectional elevation of another side. Fig. 3 is a top plan. Fig. 4 isa side view of a bolt with its nutand my lockingnut thereon. Fig. 5 is a sectional view of my nut with the springcatch removed. Fig. 6 is a top plan of the slotted nut.

The object of my invention is to produce a locking-nut to keep in place the common nut, such as is screwed onto a threaded bolt to hold different portions of any kinds of structures together to which the bolt may be applied.
My invention shows an ordinary nut with.

The nutj is provided on its face ofintended contact with the locking-nut with slots is, to receive the lower protruding end of the part of the spring-catch d. The-bolt Z is passed through the parts of a structure desired to be held together by it. The locking-nut is then slipped-onto the bolt Z and pressed firmly or closely against the face of the object to be bolted. The not j is then screwed onto the bolt and until it presses up closely against the face of the locking-nut. The lower portion, of the spring-catch is drawn into the hole in the lockingnutby pressing on the thumbpiece, so as to allow the nutj to revolve until it is screwed closely up to the locking-nut. The pressure is then removed from the thumbpieoe, and the lowerend, g,of the spring-catch allowed to slip into one of theslots la, and thus lock the nut] and prevent it from turning on the thread of the bolt. The nut j is thus securely locked in position.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s-
In combination with a threaded boltand the nut having the slots k, as set forth, the locknut with its channel a, with parts Z) and c, and hole h, into which works, as described, the spring-catch d 9, having thumb-piecefand pivot e, and helical spring 2', all as herein described.
