.NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN LOWE, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND. V
LAClNG-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 340,919, dated April 2'7, 1886.
Application filed March 3, 1886. Serial No. 193,867.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoI-IN LOWE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lacing Hooks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in shoelacings, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings,form-ing part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan view of a blank lacing-button. Fig. 2 is a view of the opposite side of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the roller or pulley. Fig. 4 is a vertical section of a lacing-button, showing the blank of Fig. 1 partly bent up. Fig. 5 is a section of Fig. 2 on a: :0, showing the bushing-piece to support the journal of the pulley. Fig. 6 is a vertical section of the button completed. Fig. 7 is a plan view of the bushingpiece. Fig. 8 is a section of the leather strap, showing the manner of securing the button to it. Fig. 9 shows the arrangement of the button on the shoe.
A A represent the metal blank which is to form the sheave for the pulley, and the bushing or socket which is to support the journal of the pulley.
a is an eyelet or hollow cone, in which is placed the bushing or socket piece B, having the hole I) in the center. C is a pulley with two journals, 0 0.
(No model.)
The method of forming the above-described parts into a lacing-hook is as followsz From the sheet of metal the blank A Ais struck up into the form shown in plan, Figs. 1 and 2, and section, Fig. 5, having a projecting eyelet, a, at one end and the saucer a at the other end. The pulley O is made as shown in section, Fig. 3. The bushing-pieceis made about the same thickness as the material to which the lacing is to be applied. The blank A A is first bent into the shape shown in Fig. 4. The bushing B is inserted in the eyelet a. The pulley O is then placed in the bushing-socket b, and the end A of the blank is turned over, as seen in Fig. 6. The inner side of A has a slight indentation, a, into which the end 0 of pulley G enters. It will thus be seen that blank A A forms a complete sheave for the pulley O. The lacing-hook thus completed is inserted by the eyelet (Z into the hole of the material already punched, and by the usual In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
