BILL AND LETTER EILE.
Patented Apr. 27, 1 886.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFR D M. SLACK, on DU 1301s, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF onnHALF TO H. LOEB, on SAME PLACE.
BlLL AND LETTER FILE.
EJPECIFECATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 340,832, dated April 2'7, 1886.
Application tiled February 18, 1886. Serial No. 192,360. (No model.)
To-aZZ whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, ALFRED M. SLACK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Du Bois, in the county of Glearfield and State -of Penn- 5 sylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bill and Letter Files; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,
. such as will enable others skilled in the art to IO which it appertains to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
This invention has relation to improvements in bill and letter files; and it consists in the peculiar construction and adaptation of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed. I
The object of this invention is to provide a bill, letter, or newspaper file which will be durable in construction and may be cheaply manufactured.
The invention is illustrated in the accom- 5 panying drawing by a perspective view.
In carrying out my invention I take a piece of spring-steel wire, which may be copper, sil ver, ornickel-plated, and file down or sharpen one end. I then bend the wire at a suitable 3o distance from the opposite end to form an attaching-eye, a, whereby the same may be placed over a nail, hook, or other means of support. From this eye the branches of the wire are carried downwardly and outwardly,
or in a divergent form, so as to furnish a broad bearing, and then inwardly, where they are united by wrapping, as indicated at I). From this connection b the branch A, having its end pointed, is carried downwardly and upwardly to form an elongated loop, B, the free arm G of which may be curved inwardly, as shown, so as to more effectually engage the hook. The opposite end of the wire is carried from the connection b in a horizontal positiomwhere it is bent upon itself about midway of its length, and then bent laterally to form a hook, D, for the engagement of the pointed branch of the holder loop.
It will be seen that this device is made from a single piece of wire, and may be manufactured at a very small expense.
Having described this invention, what I claim is As an improved article of manufacture, a billfile formed of a single piece of wire having the attaching-eye a, and the outwardly, downwardly, and inwardly directed branches united by wrapping, the hook. formed from one branch extending forwardly from the wrapped connection, and a downward loop terminating in a pointed free branch to engage the said hook, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix mysignature in presence of two witnesses.
ALFRED M. SLACK.
