Description

Oct. 15, 1968 J, vo 3,405,829
BOTTLE PROTECTOR AND TOY Filed July 12, 1966 IN VENTOR Ronald J. S/rav0 United States Patent "ice 3,405,829 BOTTLE PROTECTOR AND TOY Ronald J. Siravo, North Providence, R.I. (440 George Waterman Road, Johnston, RI. 02919) Filed July 12, 1966, Ser. No. 564,561 1 Claim. (Cl. 215-13) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A babys rnilk bottle, a holder of pliable material in which the bottle is placed, and a ring of pliable material is placed around the neck of the bottle, the holder having a plurality of equally spaced and parallel integrally formed strengthening ribs against which the outside surface of the bottle rests.
This invention relates to nursing bottles and to toys for babies, and more particularly, to a bottle protector and toy that is combined into a useful article that not only protects the bottle when it is placed on a flat surface, but is a device that also is a toy for the very young by reason of its novel configuration and construction.
Mothers and nurses are often faced with the problem of keeping a baby happy while the child is either being made ready to take its milk bottle, or is in the act of drinking from the bottle; a baby without interest in its bottle will more often than not throw or push the bottle away, thereby creating a problem for the mother or nurse who is feeding the child.
It is, therefore, the principal object of this invention to provide a bottle protector and toy that will not only protect the bottle when it is within easy reach of the baby, but is also a device that by reason of its configuration will keep the child interested in the novel device which is made of unbreakable and soft material.
Another object of this invention is to provide a bottle protector and toy that consists of two separate parts, one of which is a hollow holder in which the bottom of the milk bottle is placed, and the other which is a ring of soft material that is placed around the neck of the bottle.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a bottle protector and toy that contains either letters or figures on the sides of the protector, as will hereinafter be described.
Other and further objects and advantages of this invention will come to mind as the reading of the description of this invention proceeds and the appended drawing is examined.
In the drawing:
FIG. 1 is a pictorial view of this invention in its entirety.
FIG. 2 is a sectional view of this invention, taken substantially along line 2-2 of FIGURE 1, and viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
FIG. 3 is a sectional view of this invention, taken substantially along line 3-3 of FIGURE 2, and viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
Looking at the drawing, it will 'be seen that like details are indicated by like reference characters. In the three views, the reference character 5 indicates a babys milk bottle holder that is U-shaped when viewed in cross-section, as in FIGURE 2 of the drawing. The
3,405,829 Patented Oct. 15, 1968 aforesaid bottle holder is seen to consist of an outer shell 6 and an inner shell 7 which are separated by an air space 8. The two shells 6 and 7 are integrally connected together around the peripheral top edge 9, as one can see by examination of the drawing. The aforesaid shell 6, which is seen in FIGURES 2 and 3 to be an inside shell, is provided with a plurality of integrallyformed, equally-spaced and parallel strengthening ribs 10 against which the outside surface of the bottle 11 rests when the bottle is placed Within the confines of the bottle holder 5.
Looking at FIGURE 1 of the drawing, it will be seen that the outside surface of the shell 6, which is the outside shell of this invention, is provided with letters of the alphabet, indicated by the reference character 1-2, as Well as by pictures of one or more animals that are indicated by the reference character 13. The pictures of the animals are located on a different side of the bottle holder from that of the letter of the alphabet. Numbers not shown in the drawing are located on an opposite side of the holder 5.
This invention, which is obviously made in two parts, contains in the one part the bottle holder 5, and in the other part the ring 14. This ring 14 may or may not be hollow in cross-section. It is placed over the neck of the bottle 11 in the manner shown in FIGURE 2 of the drawing. The ring 14 will not only protect the top of the bottle should it ever be knocked over on its side, but it will also provide a toy-like device which babies could place in their mouths and play with, like a teething ring.
This novel invention of a bottle protector and toy can be made of any desirable pliable material for bottles that are either square in cross-section, as is the one shown in the appended drawing, or round in cross-section. The invention can be made of any desired color and any desired changes may be made in the invention in so long as the changes fall within the scope and intent of the appended claim.
What I now claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A bottle protector and toy of the character described, comprising a babys milk bottle, a holder of pliable material in which the bottle is placed and a ring of pliable material that is round in cross-section placed around the neck of the bottle, the holder comprising inside and outside cup shaped shells, spaced at the sides and bottom and joined at the top to form a closed ai-r chamber, the inside shell provided with a plurality of equally spaced and parallel integrally formed strengthening ribs against which the outside surface of the bottle rests.
