SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 340,133, dated April 20,1886.

To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARY A; LUOEY, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Skirt-Forms, of which the following is a specification, the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof.

Figure 1 shows the form when spread open. Fig. 2 shows it as closed, except that two ribs only are shown for greater clearness. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a part of the form enlarged for clearness.

A represents the pole or standard mounted upon the legs a.

B is a loose sleeve sliding upon the pole A and having the flange b.

M is a sleeve fixed immovably to the pole and having the flange m.

The holes b m serve as guides for the braces b m The ribs D are made preferably of steel wire to secure strength and springiness. They are maintained in the desired form and position at their lower portion by the braces m", through the ends of which the ribs D slide freely, and at their upper portion by the braces b, which are hinged to the ribs. The braces e extend from the upper ends of the ribs to the sleeve E. The braces e are hinged to the braces e and to the sleeve F. The scale H is rigidly secured along the pole A and is stationary. The sleeve F is moved along the pole until it registers with the proper point on the scale to secure the desired size at the waist, and the sleeve B is moved until it registers with the proper point on the scale to secure the desired size around the hip and lower portions.

I am aware of Letters Patent No. 236,887, to John Hall, dated January 25, 1881, which shows a scale band for adjusting the dressform, the scale-band forming an essential part of the frame itself to hold the ribs from spreading when adjusted, while my scale does not form part of the frame. In Halls device not only do the ribs have to be adjusted for every side by means of the sliding blocks, but the scale-band also has to be set, loosened, or tightened, according. to the size, before the ribs can be adjusted by the sliding blocks. In my device the scale is stationary, and the adjustment is all obtained by sliding the sleeves up or down until they register at the point desired, as indicated on the scale. The braces b are hinged to the ears m on the flange m, and the braces m are hinged to the cars If on the flange b.

When it is desired to fold the frame, the sleeves B and F are moved upward. This draws up the outer ends of braces 6, allowing the upper ends of braces 12 and the ribs D to move inwardly, the braces m passingthrongh the guide-holes m, and as the sleeve B rises the braces and ribs move toward the pole A.

The main feature of my invention consists in the combination of the ribs, the braces b m and the sleeves B and lWI.

The sleeves E and F and braces e and e are not essential to the use of my invention. A Waistband may be used in their stead, if preferred. The set-screws b andf hold the sleeves B and F in position when adjusted. The folding legs a are hinged to the flange on sleeve x, and pass through guide-holes w in the flange w on sleeve 00', which fits loosely on the pole, so that the form and the pole may be revolved. The sleeve 00, held by a set-screw, keeps the pole from sliding, but allows it to revolve. When desired to fold, the set-screw is loosened.

What I claim as my invention is 1. The flanged sleeves B and M, in combination with the braces I) and m", ribs D, and post A, the braces of one sleeve extending through holes in the flange of the othersleeve,

substantially as described.

2. In combination, pole A, having a stationary scale, H, secured lengthwise of the pole, and a skeleton frame supported upon the pole, and provided with sleeves which slide up and down the pole along the scale H, whereby the frame is adjusted to the size desired.
