Definitions

  • the invention relates to a dry-shaving apparatus having a detachable holder provided with at least one aperture, a removable shaving head, which comprises a shear plate and a cutting member co-operating therewith, fitting into each aperture, while the shaving heads are retained in the holder by means of a separate plate-shaped locking member.
  • This known apparatus has the disadvantage that on detachment of the holder the shaving heads are no longer completely fixed so that there is a risk of the shear plate and the cutting member dropping out ofthe apparatus, which especially in case of a multihead apparatus is troublesome since the shear plate and the cutting mem ber of a shaving head generally form an accurately fitting unit and are not separately interchangeable with tha of other similar shaving heads.
  • a dry-shaving apparatus which has a holder and a non-plate-shaped locking member rigidly secured to the holder.
  • the invention is characterized in that the locking member is provided with known springs the free ends of which engage lugs of the holder.
  • the holder and the locking member can be manufactured separately, which results in a substantial saving in cost of production.
  • a simple structure of the apparatus is achievedin that the side of the locking member remote from the holder is provided near its centre with a pin which extends downwards at right angles thereto and has at its free end a projecting collar which together with a suitable aperture in the housing of the apparatus forms a known pin-andsocket connection.
  • An embodiment which is particularly suitable for a holder comprising two or more shaving heads is characterized in that the holder has an upper surface with rounded-off corners the lower side of which surface is engaged with some clearance by the locking member in "ice the locked position within the edge of the holder which is bent over substantially at right angles, While at a certain distance below the upper surface of the holder on either side of a rounded-off corner the inner side of the bent-over edge of the holder is provided with lugs, and in the locked position the free ends of the springs project beyond the edge of the locking member and press against the bent-over edge of the holder.
  • the plate-shaped locking member can be held in place by one spring.
  • the shaving heads are consequently individually accessible, for example, for cleaning purposes, without the necessity of removing the locking member.
  • a particular embodiment thereof is characterized in that near the end secured to the locking member the pin is provided with a collar which exerts pressure on a bracket which is disposed between this collar and the locking member and in which the connecting pieces of the two-limb'ed springs compressible against spring pres sure are pivotally mounted.
  • FIG. 1 is a sectional view of part of a shaving apparatus provided with a locking member in accordance with the invention.
  • FIG. 2 is a bottom view of part of the holder with part of the locking member in accordance with the invention.
  • FIGURE 3 is a bottom view of the head assembly of the shaver.
  • FIGURE 4 is a plan view of the plate 8 of FIGURES 1, 2 and 3.
  • reference numeral 1 denotes a detachable holder fitted on the housing of a dry-shaving apparatus, said detachable holder 1 being provided with apertures 2 into each of which fits a removable shaving head 3.
  • the shaving head 3 consists inter alia of a shear plate 4 and a cutting member 5 co-operating therewith.
  • the cutting member 5 is driven by the driving shaft 6.
  • the holder 1 has a depending flange 7 which is designed to snap over the housing of the dry shaving apparatus.
  • the shaving heads 3 are locked in the holder 1 with a certain amount of clearance in the vertical direction by means of a plate-shaped locking member 8.
  • This locking member 8 engages the lower side of the upper portion of the holder 1 with some clearance and is provided with springs 9 which engage lugs 10* extending inwards from the inner Wall of the bent-over edge 7.
  • the springs 9 are pivotally mounted in the bracket 11.
  • the side of the plate-shaped locking member 8 remote from the holder 1 is provided near the centre with a downwardly directed pin 12 having at its free end a projecting collar 13 which together with a U-shaped spring 14 disposed in a groove 15 in the dry-shaver housing forms a known pin-and-socket connection.
  • the holder 1 and its depending flange 7 have an upstanding rim 20.
  • the lugs 10 are located on either side of the upstanding rim 20.
  • each spring 9 can be separately tilted upwards, whereupon a cutting member 5 can be removed from the shear plate 4. Since in the locked position free ends of the springs 9 project beyond the locking member 8 having slots 22, and press against the inner wall of the bent-over edge 7, the locking member 8 is held in position as long as only one spring 9 remains in the locked position.
  • the bracket 11 is disposed between a collar 17 having a rivet 24 of the pin 12 and the locking member 8 so that this bracket 11 is satisfactorily secured in a simple manner.
  • the locking plate 8 takes the form as seen in top view in FIG. 4 and is inserted under the cutter shear plate units 4 and 5. This should be readily apparent from observing FIG. 3 which is a bottom plan view of the shaving head.
  • the plate 8 prevents the cutter shear plate units 4 and 5 from falling out of their apertures in the shaving head and at the same time permits the floating head action of the shear plate and cutter which this electric dry-shaver is designed to perform.
  • FIG. 3 is a bottom plan view of the shaving head.
  • the driving shaft 6 is resiliently connected in the longitudinal direction with the driving shaft of the motor of the apparatus so that the shaving head 3 can be moved perpendicularly in the aperture 2.
  • the locking member 8 When all the springs 9 are tilted upwards, the locking member 8 can be removed from the holder 1, whereupon not only all the cutting members 5 but also all the shear plates 4 can be removed from the holder 1, for example, for cleaning purposes.
  • the shear plate 4 has a stop 18 for limiting the upward movement in the holder 1 and an abutment 19 on the locking member 8 for limiting the downward movement of the shear plate.
  • a dry shaver provided with a detachable holder having at least one aperture therein and a lug thereon, a removable shaving head fitting in said aperture and having a shear plate and a cutting member co-acting therewith; comprising means for retaining said shaving head in said holder including a separate plate-shaped locking member and a pivotable spring located below said plateshaped locking member, the free ends of said spring being removably engageable on said lug of the holder.
  • a dry shaver as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a pin extending substantially at right angles to said locking member, said pin being provided with a collar at the free end thereof connected to said locking mem her, and said pin coacting with the housing of said dry shaver at the other end thereof to form a pin and socket connection for said locking member.
  • a dry shaver as claimed in claim 1 wherein the upper surface of said holder is provided with an upstanding rim and said locking member in the locked position engages the lower side of the upper surface of said holder with some clearancewithin the edge of said holder which is bent over substantially at right angles thereto, at least one lug on said upstanding rim of the holder located at a distance below the upper surface of said holder on either side of said upstanding rim, and in the locked position the free ends of said springs project beyond the edge of said locking member and engage the bentover edge of said holder.
  • a dry shaver as claimed in claim 2 further comprising a bracket which is disposed between said collar and said locking member, said spring being U-shaped, and the bight portion thereof being pivotally mounted on said bracket.
  • a dry shaver as claimed in claim 1 wherein said shaving head can be moved in said aperture perpendicular to the plane of said shaving head, further comprising a stop on said shear plate limiting the upward movement in the aperture of said holder, and said locking member constituting an abutment for limiting the downward movement of said shear plate.
