Definitions
- a yarn coil carrier including a yarn beam having flanges at each end thereof, each of the beam and flanges having a core element of a lightweightplastic material removable out of the beam and flanges by heat or solvent, the core element s being reinforced by tie rods and elements embedded 'therein. 7
- This invention relates to the manufacture and structure of yarn coil carriers or bobbins as textile bobbins and spools and which are able to take particularly heavy loads.
- the bobbins consist of a yarn holding beam or rod and yarnconfining flanges, such as Warp beams, dividing beams and the like, for use in the manufacture of woven, and knitted textile goods.
- Conventional yarn coil carriers or the like which are chiefly made of metals, such as iron and aluminium, by casting, forging, pressing or'welding processes,'have undergone an increase in size, in connection with a corresponding increase in weight, with the increasing demands as regards their stability. In their present design, they are no longer suitable in every respect for the higher loads that occur in modern machines and thus limit both the degree of winding capacity and the design of the machines and thereby the weaving and knitting efficiency of the machines itself.
- a further increase in the winding capacity of the yarn beams as a requirement for automatic manufacture of woven and knitted goods, in particular in the processing of synthetic fibre materials, is possible only if yarn coil carriers are produced which, while they have greater stability than has heretofore been customary, do not show any further increases in dimensions and weight, but rather decreases in weight. With the designs of yarn coil carriers in use at present and the materials used for making the same, this is not, however, the case.
- the yarn beam and the yarn confining flanges are formed on the one hand of inner core elements which conform to their shape and on the other hand of outer casing elements.
- the casing elements partly or completely enclose the core elements. Both the core elements and the casing elements are partly or completely and fixedly secured to one another. Moreover, there are partly or completely fixed connections between the core 3,398,915 Patented Aug. 27, 1968 elements and the casing elements, that is the particular parts are connected to one part on its entire upper surface securely with one another.
- the casing elements comprise connecting elements extending through the core elements.
- the casing elements and the connecting elements are then partly or completely connected to one another and, if desired, also to the core elements.
- Both the core elements and the casing elements and connecting elements may consist of different materials which are adapted to the stresses occurring in them.
- the casing elements are most suitably made of highstrength, but at the same time light, materials such as glass fibre-reinforced plastic or a suitable light metal alloy, while a plastic of suitable hardness, if necessary in the form of foam plastic bodies, is preferably employed for the light core elements.
- the connecting elements may consist of a suitable light metal alloy and in certain circumstances also of a suitable buckling-resistant plastic.
- Suitable embedded elements which are once again of materials of different types, mainly a suitable plastic material, for example at the outer periphery of the yarn confining flanges, but if desired also a light-metal or steel alloy, for example when in the form of tie rods, may be incorporated both in the core elements and in the casing and connecting elements. These embedded elements preferably have a partial or complete fixed connection with their respective enclosing elements.
- the embedded elements may form both reinforcements, stiffening means, bracing means, hubs and closures and outer rings.
- the core elements Due to the light construction of the core elements from plastic or the like, they can readily be left in the casing elements.
- the advantage is thereby obtained that the core elements act as a kind of support in the casing elements, so that damage in transport by denting, such as may easily occur from experience with conventional hollow cast flanges, can readily be avoided.
- a preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the drawing, which is a longitudinal cross section through the bobbin spool.
- casings 2 of high strength materials such as, for example, glass fibre-reinforced plastic or an aluminium alloy.
- the core elements 1 have the particular shape that is required for the yarn coil carriers and do not have the function of taking up or absorbing forces. They may therefore be produced from the lightest materials with only low strength values.
- the outer casings 2 formed of the high-strength materials are primarily designed to ensure the stability of the yarn coil carriers and to take up the large forces that occur and which are caused by the pressures produced during the winding process. The two give the yarn coil carrier form and stability.
- inter-connecting elements 3 extending through a number of the core elements 1 and made of high-strength materials, the said connecting elements 3 being connected to the casing elements 2. All these elements are advantageously made of different materials according to the stresses and strains to which they are subjected and have a partial or complete connection with one another as required in each case.
- Suitably shaped function-ensuring or strength-acting inserts 4 are also embedded according to requirements in the three basic elements, the core element 1 and the casing element 2, and these inserts form stiffening means, reinforcements or bracing means and thereby are able to take up forces in addition, or assume the functional properties of closures, hubs, guides, armouring and the like.
- These embedded inserts 4 again have, according to suitability, a partial or complete fixed connection with the surrounding parts 1 to 3 and consist of materials suitable for the purpose, such as a suitable steel alloy or a light metal alloy, or if desired also a suitable plastic material, as at the outer periphery of the yarn confining flanges.
- the yarn coil carrier has shape and stability, there is the possibility in certain circumstances of partly or completely dissolving the core elements 1 out of the yarn coil carrier by heat or a solvent. This only becomes important if it makes a further reduction of weight possible without any loss of strength. Generally, however, it will be more advantageous to leave the core elements in the members such as the center part and the flanges, encasing them, since in this way the core-releasing or removing operations which have heretofore always been necessary after casting are eliminated.
- yarn coil carriers comprising a yarn beam and yarn confining flanges are produced which, by a favorable choice of the materials, on the one hand, and the most favorable position thereof in the finished yarn coil carrier in each instance, on the other hand, will ensure the highest possible degree of capacity for taking up forces in conjunction with the smallest possible weight.
- materials with the highest strength values in the zones of highest stress and of using materials with lower strength values are produced which, on the other hand, also of lower weight, in the parts where the lowest loads and stresses occur.
- the total weight is substantially reduced as compared with the previous single-material construction and the stability is considerably increased through the choice of high-strength materials.
- economic advantages are achieved, since the proportion of costly materials is substantially reduced and the cheaper light materials make up a large proportion.
- the necessary function-dependent shaping is also possible without any difiiculty by this invention, the casing v, 1;, construction being able to take the highest yarn pressures, since, as an outer shell, it creates probably the most favorable strength conditions.
- the yarn coil carriers consisting of a yarn beam and yarn confining flanges larger than heretofore possible as regards the quantity of yarn to be woun'd thereon.
- it is also'possible to produce considerably larger machine assemblies which are considerably more efficient than the machines on the market up "to now and which can also be utilized in a considerably more economic way.
- Yarn coilcarrier or the like comprising'a yarn beam including a core element composed of a lightweight plastic material which may be removed out of the carrier, by heat or a solvent, a casing of high-strength material provided around the core element, an insert on each end of the core element to impart strength to thecarrier, tie rods embedded in thecore element and extending from end to end of the yarn beam, said tie rods :being connected at their ends to the inserts and a confining flange on the yarn beam adjacent each end threof, each said flange comprising a core element of light-weight plastic material which may be removed by heat or a solvent, a casing element around the flange as a covering and stiffening means composed of a material to impart high strength to the flanges, and a plurality of elements embedded in the core elements of the flange and interconnecting the walls of the flange casing element.
