  • propping frames for mining galleries of a head-piece and two uprights having a trough shaped cross-section said parts being interconnected by clamping members which allow their sliding under the action of the stresses exerted by the ground in which the gallery extends, while the head-piece is constituted by two arms having a radius of curvature which is substantially equal to that of the uprights and the two adjacent ends of which, possibly interconnected by an intermediate section, form with each other an angle which is substantially equal to that formed between the ends of the uprights when collapsed to the maximum extent.
  • Such frames are a substantial improvement over the conventional frames that include two uprights provided with an upper arcuate portion having a radius of curvature which is generally larger than that of the arcuate head-piece. Said improvement results in a reduction of the gaps arising between the ends of the head-piece and the uprights.

  • My invention provides such an improvement and it covers a propping frame formed by at least two components assuming, when assembled, the shape of a complete or truncated ogive.
  • the head-piece of the frame has two arcuate arms of substantially equal radius of curvature; the arms are mounted slidingly with respect to each other and are slidably secured to a central shoe in such a manner that they are adapted to assume an overlapping position.
  • the frame may, by proper selection of the radii and of the centers of curvature, slide under the action of oblique and vertical thrusts, or only under the action of oblique thrusts when the direction thereof is known in advance.
