(Cl. 132-79) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The package comprises a folder formed from an elongated strip of flexible paper-like material folded upon itself along a transverse line intermediate the ends, and folded once again along a second transverse line to provide a base and a cover. The inner ply of the base is out along parallel lines to releasably receive the opposite longitudinal edges of the razor head, and a hole in the inner ply of the base receives a boss of the head. The inner ply of the basealso has an elongated slot in which the razor handle is releasably received, a recess in the end of the handle being engaged by a tab at one end of the slot and ribs on the handle engaging the opposite longitudinal edges of the slot.

The inner ply of the cover is out along lines to provide means for releasably retaining a shaving cream packet.

The outer ply of the cover has a tab at its front edge releasably engageable in a slit formed in the inner ply of the base to retain the cover folded down upon the base.

This invention relates generally to a package and refers more particularly to a package comprising a folder and its contents such as a razor, for example.

One of the essential objects of the invention is to provide a package comprising a folder having a base and a cover adapted to be folded down over the base, and means for separately, releasably securing the contents to the base so that when the cover is folded down over the base, the contents will be safely held within the folder. The contents of the package may include an inexpensive razor, formed of plastic or the like.

Another object of the invention is to provide a folder which is formed from an elongated strip of flexible paperlike material folded upon itself along a transverse line intermediate its ends to provide an inner and outer layer, and folded once again along a second transverse line to provide a base and cover.

Another object is to provide a package in which the inner ply of the base is out along laterally spaced lines to provide slits in which the opposite longitudinal edges of a razor head are releasably retained.

Another object is to provide an elongated slot in the inner ply of the base in which a razor handle is releasably retained.

Another object is to provide laterally spaced slits or lips in the inner ply of the cover to retain a packet of shaving cream.

Another object is to provide a folder having a tab on the front edge of the outer ply of the cover adapted to engage a slit in the inner ply of the base to hold the cover folded down over the base.

Other objects and features of the invention will become apparent as the description proceeds, especially when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, wherein:

FIGURE 1 is a top plan view of the folder forming a novel part of the package of my invention shown with the cover folded down over the base.

FIG. 2 is a top plan view of the folder illustrated in FIGURE 1, shown with the cover folded back or in open position, exposing the inner sides of the base and cover.

FIGURE 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of FIGURE 2.

FIGURE 4 is a perspective view of the complete package showing the folder opened and illustrating the parts of the razor and shaving cream packet secured to the inner plies of the base and cover portions of the folder.

FIGURE 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 55 of FIGURE 4.

FIGURE 6- is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 6 6 of FIGURE 4.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, and especially to FIGURES 1-6, the folder is generally designated by the reference character A; the razor head is generally designated B; the razor handle C, and the packet of shaving cream D.

The folder A has a base 10 and a cover 12 which are connected together at their rear edges permitting the cover to be folded down over the base to close the folder or to be folded up and away from the base to open the folder. The base has inner and

16 and 18, and the cover has inner and

outer plies

20 and 22.

The folder is formed from an elongated strip of flexible material such as paper or the like which is folded upon itself along a transverse line intermediate its ends to provide an inner and an outer layer. The transverse line upon which the elongated strip is folded is designated 24 and constitutes the front edge of the base. The inner and outer plies of the base and the cover are formed from portions of the inner and outer layers of the folded strip. The folded strip is once again folded along the

14 and 15 of the inner and outer layers which fold lines coincide with the rear edges of the base and the cover and form the boundary line between the base and the cover. If desired, the inner layer may be perforated along the fold line .15 to make the folder easier to fold. Obviously, the outer layer may likewise be perforated along the fold line 14 for the same purpose.

It will be appreciated that the inner and outer layers of the strip providing the inner and outer plies of the base and cover need not be and preferably are not secured together, but merely overlie one another.

The inner ply 16 of the base is cut along laterally spaced lines to provide the

28 and 30. These slits extend transversely and, except at their very ends, are parallel to the fold line 14. At their ends, the

slits

28 and 30 are curved away from each other as indicated at 32, the purpose of this being to provide lips 34 which can bend down from the plane of the inner ply, as shown in FIG- URE 6.

The razor head B includes an elongated guard 36, an elongated top 38 and a blade 40 sandwiched between the guard and the top. Opposite cutting edges of the blade extend along the opposite longitudinal edges of the guard. The razor head is shown in FIGURES 4 and 6 releasably retained by the base 10. Specifically, the opposite longitudinal edges of the guard 36 have enlarged beads 37 which extend into the

28 and 30, and the lips 34 bend downward from the plane of the inner ply 16. Accordingly, the beads 37 on the guard 36 of the razor head engage the adjacent edges of the slits 28 and 30 (see FIG. 6) to prevent the head from rotating.

It will further be noted that there is a boss 42 projecting downward-1y from the guard 36. This boss is centrally located with respect to the guard and has a downwardly opening recess 44. The recess 44 is designed to receive the reduced extension 46 on the upper end of handle C when the head and handle are assembled. The lateral projection 48 on the extension of the handle is designed to lock the extension 46 in the recess 44 When the handle is turned. It will, of course, be understood that the recess 44 will have a groove to clear the projection 48 during insertion of the extension 46 and rotation thereof. The razor construction is more fully described in my co-pending application Ser. No. 406,977, filed Oct. 26, 1964.

The inner ply 16 is formed with a hole 50 midway between the

28 and 30 and midway between the opposite sides of the inner ply, such hole being provided to accommodate the boss 42.

The inner ply 16 is also formed with an elongated slot 52 which is parallel to the

slits

28 and 30. The configuration of the slot 52 generally conforms to the configuration of the handle C. It has an elongated, generally rectangular main portion 54 and the reduced portion 56 at one end. The main portion of the handle C will fit within the portion 54 of the slot, and the reduced extension 46 will fit within the reduced end portion 56. It will be noted that the handle is formed with a plurality of longitudinally extending, circumferentially spaced, outwardly projecting ribs 60 on the main body portion thereof, and the opposite parallel edges of the main portion 54 of the slot extend into the space between adjacent pairs of ribs on opposite sides of the handle when the handle is inserted in the slot. This tends to retain the handle against accidental removal. The inner ply 16 has a small, tapered tab 62 which extends into one end of the slot 52 and is adapted to engage in a recess 64 in the end of the handle to assist in retaining the handle from dropping out of the folder accidentally.

The inner ply 20 of the cover has a pair of

parallel slits

70 and 72 which extend at right angles to the fold line 15. The elongated packet D of shaving cream has its opposite ends extended through the

slits

70 and 72. The packet D is preferably of a flexible material such as might be used in the manufacture of a shaving cream or tooth brush tube and can be bent in the middle to remove it from the folder.

The cover is held down over the base in folded condition as shown in FIGURE 1 by means of an integral tab 80 on the front edge of the outer ply 22, which tab extends into a slit 82 in the inner ply of the base near the forward edge thereof. The slit 82 is parallel to the fold line 14. Obviously, the folder may be readily opened to the position of FIGURES 2 and 4 by withdrawing the tab 80 from the slit 82. The razor head B can be readily removed by an upward pull sufiicient to flex the lips 34. The handle C can also be removed by sufficient upward pressure to disengage the ribs 60 from the opposite edges of the slot which are, of course, easily flexed. The packet of shaving cream D can also be readily removed from the cover by bending it in the middle and pulling the ends from the

FIGURE 7 shows a modification in which the lips 34 are cut away. Referring to FIGURE 2, the lips would be cut out along the bend lines shown in broken lines. The bead 37 engages edge of bead 30 as in the FIGURES 1-6 embodiment. It will be understood that while only one edge of the razor head is seen in FIGURE 7, the opposite bead 37 will engage the edge of bead 28 in the same way and the adjacent lip will also be cut away.

FIGURE 8 shows a modification in which the inner ply 20 of the cover holds the packet of shaving cream D in a different way. The inner ply is slit along the laterally spaced lines 90. The slits extend transversely and, except at their very ends, are parallel to the fold line 14. At their ends the slits curve away from each other. The slits define lips 92 which can be bent up along dotted line 93. The packet of shaving cream can have its opposite side edges 4. fitted under the lips as shown, to be retained in place against accidental removal.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. A package comprising a folder and a razor having a head and a handle held within said folder, said folder having a base and a cover which are connected at their rear edges permitting said cover to be folded upand away from said base and also down and over said base, said base and said cover each having an inner ply and an outer ply, said folder being formed from an elongated strip of flexible paper-like material folded upon itself along a transverse line intermediate its ends to provide an inner layer and an outer layer, and folded once again along a second transverse line coinciding with the aforesaid rear edges to provide said base and said cover, said inner and outer layers respectively providing said inner and outer plies of said base and cover, said inner ply of said base having a pair of elongated spaced openings parallel to said rear edge of said base in which the 0pposite longitudinal edges of said head extend, said edges of said head engaging the adjacent edges of said openings, said inner ply of said base having an elongated slot parallel to said elongated openings and in which said handle is releasably retained, a shaving cream packet, said inner ply of said cover being cut along spaced lines releasably retaining said shaving cream packet therein, said outer ply of said cover having a tab at its front edge, and said inner ply of said base having a slit adjacent the front edge thereof receiving said tab when said cover is folded down and upon said base to releasably retain said folder in folded condition.

2. The package defined in claim 1, wherein said head has a boss for connection with an end of said handle when said handle and head are assembled, and said inner ply of said base has a hole between said elongated spaced openings to receive said boss.

3. The package defined in claim 1, wherein said inner ply of said base has an integral tab extending into one end of said slot, said handle having a recess in one end in which said tab is releasably engaged, said handle having longitudinally extending ribs spaced circumferentially thereabout, the opposite longitudinal edges of said slot engaging in the spaces between adjacent pairs of said ribs on opposite sides of said handle.

4. The package defined in claim 1, wherein the cutting lines in the inner ply of said cover extend parallel to said rear edge of said cover to provide lips releasably retaining said shaving cream packet.

5. The package defined in claim 1, wherein the cutting lines in the inner ply of said cover extend at right angles to said rear edge of said cover to provide openings releasably receiving the opposite ends of said shaving cream packet.
