Description

H. NO'RMANDY.
CLOTHES DRIBR.
No. 338,288. Patented Mar. 28, 1886.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
CLOTHES-DRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 338,288, dated March 23, 1886.
Applioationntllled June 8, 1885. Serial No. 167,986. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY NOEMANDY, of the city and county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Devices for Drying Towels, Sto.; and I do hereby declare the following specilication, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same, to be a description thereof.
This invention relates to a device for the purpose of holding towels, 85o., so that they may be dried over a stove, and it consists in a standard having a clamp for securely attaching the standard to the top of a stove and allowing it to be conveniently removed, and provided with radial arms loosely mounted upon the standard, so their positions can be readily changed, and with means for holding the arms at any desired height on the standard, as Will hereinafter appear.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents the device in perspective and attached to the top of a stove, ,which top is shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 represents in perspective one of the radial arms detached.
The device consists of a standard or upright, A, which is preferably of solid or tubular metal, and is .provided at its lower end with a U shape piece or member, B, the arms b b' of which are adapted to fork the edge of the stove-top. Through one of these arms, as b, a thumb-screw, C, passes, the memberB and screw C constituting a clamp by which the standard A can be securely attached to a stove-top, D, Fig. l. Preferably the arm b of the U shape member B is made longer than the arm b of said member, so that said arm shall have a good bearing inwardly beyond the ornamental edge of the stove-top, and so that the standard A shall be located Well over the stove, where the heat is more intense.
Mounted upon the standard A are several radial arms, E, more or less in number, which are screwed into or otherwise secured to hubs or sleeves e, provided with holes e', to enable the arms to be mounted on the standard so that they may be conveniently changed in position radially.
Located beneath the lowermost arm E, and
surrounding the standard is a collar, F, having b a set-screw, f, for adj ustably securing said collar to the standard, so as to support or hold the arms E at any desired height.
As shown in Fig. l, the sleeves e rest upon one another, and the lowermost one is in engagement with the collar F, which supports the stack of arms.
The sleeves e may be of any preferred length, so as to separate the arms vertically the desired amount.
As a whole, t-he device is simplein construction, and is easily and conveniently applied to and removed from the stove-top, and occupies but small space when removed.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The device for drying towels, dto., herein described, consisting of the standard A, provided with the clamping device B C, to enable it to be securely attached to the top of astove, and having the vertically-adjustable arms E loosely mounted thereon, and means, substantially as described, for supporting said arms upon. the standard, substantially as set forth.
2. The' combination of the standard A, the clamp member B, attached thereto, and having a screw, O, the upper arm, b, of said member being of greater length than the arm b', as described, the radial arms E, adjustably mounted on said standard, and the collar F, having a set-screw, f, for supporting the arms on the standard, substantially as set forth.
HENRY NORMANDY.
