POTTERS WHEEL. No. 337,632; Patented Mar. 9,1886.

ATTORN EYS iJNTTEn STATES PATENT @rricno BENJAMIN FRANKLIN SHELDON, OF RED WVING, MINNESOTA.
POTTERS WH EEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 337,632, dated March 9, 1886.
Application filed October 17, 1885.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN SHELDON, a citizen of the United States, resident at Red Wing, in the county of Goodhue and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Potters Wheels; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure I of the drawings is a representation of this invention, and is a vertical section. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the butt-ring. Fig. 3 is a top view of the wheel-head.
This invention relates to potters wheels; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the wheel-head, and B the butt-ring, which is provided with recesses G in its bottom, which fit over the lugs D on the wheel-head A. The wheel-head A is provided with openings A in its bottom, to pre- Serial No. 180,160. (No model.)
vent it from being filled with clay and water. c
The butt-ring B is of iron, and is to be filled with plaster the diameter of the article to be turned.
The operation of my improved potter s wheel is as follows: Place the butt-ring, constructed as above described, in the wheelhead, and turn the pot or other article desired, and then set the butt-ring with the article turned away to dry. By this construction and method of procedure I dispense with the use of lifters, and obviate the danger of marring or getting the article out of the shape in taking it off the wheel, as is now done; besides, I save time in finishing.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The combination, with the wheel-head A, provided with the lugs D, of the butt-ring B, provided with the recesses O in its bottom, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN SHELDON Witnesses:
J. O. MOOLURE, FRANK I-I. COLE.
