Be it known that I, Framers I. PALMER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have lnvented a new and Improved Combined Portable Summer and Bath House, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention consists in a portable summer and bath house composed of a suitable frame prepared in sections, and adapted to be set up and taken down, provided with a detachable roof, and having curtained sides to be raised to form an open summer-house and lowered to convert itinto a bath-house, as hereinafter described.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, lll. which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved summer and bath house combined, showing the cnrtained sides raised to form a summer-house, the frame being constructed of tubing with suitable connections. Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, representing the frame composed of ordinary wooden joists. Fig. 3 1s a side elevation of a number of independent frames placed side by side under a single roof, by which a number of separate and independent bath-rooms may be formed by lowering the different curtained sides of each section, and by raising the curtained sides a single rectangular room suitable for use asasumnienhouse may be formed. Figs. 4 and 5 are parts of the house detached. Fig. 6 represents an clbow and an angle-iron by which the parts of the frame are to be united at the corners.

In Fig. 1 the frame is composed of iron rods e e, supported in recesses (shown in dotted llnes) in the corner-posts K, which are set in the ground at proper distances apart and at a depth sufficient to maintain the frame mounted therein firmly in an upright position. These rods 6 may be in sections, for convenience of construction and transportation, and coupled together in the usual manner byproper couplings, C, Fig. 1, with cross-bars d, to stiffen the frame laterally. The upper ends of the uprights 6 are connected by cross-rods (shown in dotted lines) with elbow-connections f at the corners, to the middle of which rods is placed a ridge -board, over which the roof a is to be placed and secured in any convenient manner.

\Vhen the roof is of canvas, it is to extend downwardly for a distance over the sides, so that when the curtains are raised, as in Fig. 1, they will be protected from the rain by this overhanging roof. When a wooden roof is to be used,the edges may project beyond the sides of the frame, so that the curtains may be drawn up beneath them for protection. Each section is to be surrounded by an independent curtain, so that when one of the curtains is lowered, as in b Fig. 3, a complete bath-room is formed by being inclosed on its four sides, and is quite independent of the adjoining sections, which may be used as a summer-house at the same time; or the curtains may be but partially raised for protection from the sun and wind, as in b, Fig. 3, or may be raised to the roof, as in Fig. 2.

Seats m may be provided, either secured to the frame or removable from the house, and

such other furniture, together with appliances for shower-baths, as required.

The usual cords and pulleys for raising and lowering curtains may be employed, and arranged so as to raise and lower the :four sides of the surrounding curtain simultaneously, or to raise one or more sides for protection from the sun and wind at pleasure.

It is quite evident that the frame and the manner of connecting the several parts thereof may be varied to suit the different constructions without departing from my invention, which consists in the combination of summer and bath house having a surrounding curtain, as shown.

Having thus described myinvention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is-

1. A portable house consisting of a sectional frame adapted to be set up and taken down, provided with an independent attachable and detachable roof, in combination with a single curtain inclosing the house on all sides, to be lowered to form an inclosed bathing apartment and raised to convert the bathing apartment into an open summer-house, substantially as herein described.

2.
