(Cl. 206-56) Lipsticks are generally sol-d in holders which are really expendable packaging, for while refills can easily be obtained in commerce, i.e., sticks which can be placed in the holders, users hardly ever employ these reiills owing to the difficulty of inserting them without soiling the iingers. Consequently, lipstick makers are obliged to purchase a very large quantity of holders and, as an economy must select those that are relatively inexpensive, so that these toilet accessories, which are often carried in ladies handbags, rarely have the .appearance of luxury articles which would, of course, be desirable.
The present invention has the object of overcoming these disadvantages and creating a universal extracting device which enables the user to withdraw from any ordinary lipstick holder the remainder of the unuseable lipstick and, furthermore, to ll the case again with any ordinary reiill without soiling the hands.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a lipstick holder which will induce users to make use of rells, and hence, bringing about that holders will last longer, and thus can be more expensively made to have a more ornamental appearance and form luxury articles.
Still another object is of this invention is the provision of a lipstick holder comprising, in combination with the base holding the stick, an extractor for the remainder of the stick formed by a cap that can be slipped over the upper part of the base, and having extracting components internally which penetrate into what is left of the stick, for extracting it.
Another object is to create a lipstick holder in which the extracting components are elastic and so shaped as to penetrate into the remainder of the lipstick to facilitate its extraction.
Anoher object is to create a lipstick holder combined with an extractor for the remaining lipstick formed by a hood whose skirt is formed by a sleeve threaded at its top part and a reiill lbase whose bottom carries extractor components, a pointed cover enclosing the refill stick having a threading at its lower part engaging said thread on the sleeves.

FIG. 19 is a view seen along the line XIX-XD( of FIG. 18.
FIG. 2O shows an additional element.
FIG. 21 is a cross section of the extractor provided with this additional element.
FIG. 1 shows a lipstick case comprising the conventional base placed in a slide engaged by a worm 4 in a helical skew 5 provided inside the case. 6 denotes the remainder of the lipstick in the base 2.
According to the invention, an extractor is combined with this case formed by a hood 7, preferably uted inside, with a flexible blade 8 fixed in the bottom. The peripheral edge 7 of the hood is preferably slightly turned over inwards.
To extract the remainder 6 of the lipstick, the hood 7 is slipped on over the external wall of the base 2, the :blade 8 penetrates into the lipstick 6 and curves inwardly under pressure, so that by withdrawing the hood 7 with a slight turning movement if so required, it brings along the remainder of the lipstick 6 inside the hood, which can then be extracted without touching it with the fingers. The rim 7 scrapes the external wall of the base 2 removing any smudge that may tend to form when the hood is slipped onto this base.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 3 and 4, the extractor is formed :by a hood 17 with turned-down edge 17', in which a curved blade 18 is iixed in the shape of a cylindrical segment. In this case, the blade 18 penetrates deeply into the lipstick 6, and by turning, it extracts the latter, the operation being, moreover the same as in the previous embodiment.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 5 and 6, the hood 27 is traversed by a rod 21 carrying a blade 28 forming two incurved blades. A knob 22 enables the rod 21 and the blades of the blade 28 to be turned. A serration 29 provides for better holding the remainder of the lipstick by pushing the knob 22 and rod 21. By turning, the lipstick is removed, and can then be conveniently extracted by holding the hood between the lingers.
In the aforegoing embodiments, the blade may be calculated with the required length to reach against the bottom of the base 2 so as to scrape all the remainder of the lipstick from that bottom.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 7 and 8, the hood 37 is provided with a blade 38 of hook shape which also has, at its end, an arrow forming a top 39. Its peripheral edge 37 is turned down outside. In this embodiment also, when this hood is slipped onto the base, the base, the blade 38 and arrow 39 solidly hook into the lipstick which can be easily extracted by pulling the hood off.
FIGS. 9 and 10 show an alternative in which the hood 47 is provided with a helical blade 48 for engaging in the remainder of the lipstick like a corkscrew, for extracting what is left of the lipstick. The lower edge 47 is also turned inside.
FIGS. 11 and 12 show another embodiment comprising a hood 57 in which a at rod or blade S8 is fixed, having a small plate 51 at its end in the shape of an arrow or top. When inserted into the lipstick, the branches of this small plate 51 become embedded in the lipstick and facilitate its removal.
FIGS. 13 and 14 show an alternative in which the hood 67 has a serrated end wall 69 and a lower rim 67 traversed by a rod 61 operated by a knob 62 which goes through. a collar 63 and is provided with two cross-shaped orthogonal small plates 64, 65, with arrow-shaped branches 66 at their ends. After placing the hood 67 on the top part of the case containingfthe base with the remainder of the lipstick, the knob and rod 61 are pushed for insertingY the small plates 64, 65 into the remainder of the lipstick. Al slight turn is then made so as to solidly anchor the cross-piece formed by these small plates in the base of the lipstick (position shown by dotted lines) and the knob and rod are pulled for extracting the remainder of the lipstick placed inside the hood.
In the, embodiment of FIGS.A and 16, the hood S7; whose end wall is serrated at 89 and whose lower edge 87' is turned down towards the inside, is provided with a curved triangular blade 88, preferably resilient.
FIG. 17 shows a combined rell device comprising a new stick 71 contained in a cover 72 and placed in a cup 73. This cup is inserted in a holder 74 acting like the hoods of the aforegoing embodiments. An extraction blade 75 is fixed under the cup 73 in the free part of the holder 74 whose lower edge 74 is preferably slightly turned' down inside. This assembly is sold as a refill. The user only needs to slip the base of the holder 74 onto the base 2 containing` the remainder of the lipstick 6 so that the blade 75 penetrates deeply tothe bottom of the base 2,.into the remainder of the lipstick. By turning this holder andpulling on it, the remainder of the lipstick in the base is extracted. Then, it is only necessary to withdraw the new stick 71 while holding its cover 72, made of synthetic material', for instance, and to insert the bare base 71' of. this stick in the base 2 of the case. Then the cover 72.V can be withdrawn, and the user can immediately make use ofherlipstick after having extracted the. former lipstick and positioned the new stick without touching either` one or the other with the fingers.
In FIGS. 18 and 19, the extractor 87 is placed in a rubber hood 90, like a dropping-tube. The extractor is also provided at its lower part with small resilient tongues 91 held at their periphery. These smallv tongues are retracted by their resiliency, when the extractor is placed on the Vcase andl resume the position shown when the extractor is withdrawnwith the remainder of the lipstick, While preventing bits of the latter from falling outside. The hood 90-is pressed at the moment when the extractor is positioned and released when it is withdrawn, so that it forms a suction-cup by producing a suction helping to remove the remainder ofthe lipstick.
FIG. 2O shows a strip 92 of electric material which comprises two operating'knobs 93, 94 and two terminals 95. This strip is wrapped around the extractor as shown in FIG. 21. The two terminals 95 enable connection to an electric current source, such as a pockety lamp battery or the like for momentarilyfheating the extractor so that it produces asoftening action on the remainder of the lipstock. Any other heating device may be provided.
When the remainder ofthe lipstick has been withdrawn from the Ibase of the case by means of the extractor yof they invention, a new stick, of the required make and shade, can be put in its place. The fitting of this new stick can take place in any suitable manner according'to the packaging adopted by each maker for the refill stick, this packaging being able to be a plastic, cardboard, glass or metal tube, containing the lipstick with its point forwards; when the cover is withdrawn, the base of the stick is revealed' and emerges from the tube. It is then only necessaryV to hold the latter between the fingers and engage the end of the bare stick in the emptied base, then to exert slight pressure on the tube along the axis of the stick. The. introducing of the stick can also be done in the same way with refills in which the stick is directly poured into a suitably shaped hood. It is then only necessary, when the stick has been inserted in the base, to impart a slightY rotary movement in both directions to the hood to detach it from the stick that it contains.
Extractors according to the invention may be made very cheaply, of any suitable material, more particularly, of moulded synthetic material, so that they may be thrown away after being used once. They thus very properly complete the assembly of lipstick case and its refills, enabling, after extracting the unuseable remainer, a new stick to be inserted, providing the user with means for retaining the same case, which can then be a luxury article, by employing refills without soiling the fingers.
It will be understood that this invention is susceptible to modification in order to adapt it to different usages and conditions; and accordingly, it is desired to comprehend such: modifications within this invention as may fall within the scope'of the appended claims.
