zoiaims. (orisffmoa) This invention relates to brushes and a holder therefor.
An object of this invention is to provide a brush and holder which are adapted to be mounted on a bottle' or other receptacle having a threaded neck, such as a bottle containing nail polish or the like, so that the brush may have the bristles thereof disposed within the liquid irrespective of the depth of the liquid in the bottle.
Another object of this invention'is to provide a brush and holder therefor, which is so constructed that the brush may be extended into or retracted from the liquid by means of an operator disposed on the outer end of the combined holder and cap.
A further object of this invention is to pro-y Y vide Ia combined brush holder and bottle cap which includes means for moving the brush endwise either into or out of the liquid within the bottle, the holder being so constructed that theY device may be removed from the bottle with the brush extending from the inner or lower end of the holder for use in applying the liquid on the desired part.
With the above and other objects in View, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended'claims.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a detail side elevation of a combined brush and holder constructed according to an embodiment of this invention,
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of the device removed from the bottle,
Figure 3 is a sectional view 3--3 of Figure 2, and
Figure 4 is a sectional View taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral I9 designates generally a conventional bottle of the type such as adapted to contain nail polish or the like.
The bottle IG is formed `with a neck II having conventional threads and a cap I2 is adapted to be threaded on the upper end of the neck II. The cap I2 has extending upwardly therefrom an elongated tubular handle or shank I4, which is formed with a longitudinal bore I3.
The bore I3 is also formed with a spiral thread taken on the line I5, the purpose for which will be hereinafter des eiongatedhandie .m having bristles im' .at its lower or inner end. The handle Il slidably engages in a sleeve or lining IIl which is interposed between the handle I I and the bore I3.
The sleeve or lining I8 is provided with a longitudinally extending slot I9 through which a pin or lug 2G which is xed to the handle Il is adapted to loosely engage. The pin or lug 20 engages in the thread I5 so that upon rotation of the sleeve or lining I8 the handle II will be moved endwise in the shank or handle I4.
The upper or outer end of the sleeve I8 has xed thereto a knob or operator 2l which is formed with a crimped flange 22 loosely engaged aboutan annular rib 23 carried by the outer end of the handle o1' shank I4. The crimped ange Z2 is adapted to hold the sleeve I8 against endwise movement in the bore I3.
The handle Il of the brush I6 has fixed thereto a collar 24, which, when the brush I6 is retracted into the handle Ill, is adapted to bear against the outer end of the cap I2.
In the use and operation of this invention, the cap I2 is adapted to be threaded onto the neck li of the bottle Ii) and the brush I6 is adjusted endwise so that the bristles I8 will project into the liquid but no portion of the handle I'I of the brush .will be extended into the liquid.
When it is desired to use the brush I E, the cap I2 with the handle or shank I4 vis unthreaded from the neck II of the bottle. Normally a substantial portion of the handle Il will project from the lower end of the cap I2, but if a greater length of handle is desired, the knob or operator 2l is rotated to move the handle I'I downwardly and outwardly from the cap I2. 4
In Figure 1, the brush is shown in dotted lines extended to substantially theY bottom of the bottle I@ when the liquid level is quite low in the bottle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
l. A brush holder for mounting on the threaded neck of a bottle, comprising a cap, an elongated handle extending from said cap, said handle being formed with a threaded bore, a sleeve rotatably engaging in said bore, a knob fixed to said sleeve at the outer end thereof, said handle being formed with an annular rib at the outer end thereof, a crimped flange carried by said knob rotatably engaging said rib, said sleeve having a lengthwise slot therein, a brush member including an elongated handle loosely engaging in said sleeve, a pin fixed to said brush handle proiecting through said slot, and engaging the Y 3 thread of said first-named handle whereby rotation of said sleeve will effect endwise movement of said brush. Y
2. A brush holder for mounting on the threaded neck of a bottle, comprising a cap, an elongated handle extending from said cap, said handle being formed with a threaded bore, a sleeve rotatably engaging in said bore, a knob xed to said sleeve at the outer end thereof, said handle being formed with an annular rib at the outer 10 end thereof, a crimped flange carried by said knob rotatably engaging said rib, said sleeve having a lengthwise slot therein, a brush member including an elongated handle loosely engaging in said sleeve, a pin xed to said brush handle projecting through said slot and engaging the thread of said rst-named handle whereby rotation of said sleeve will effect endwise movement of said brush, and a collar fixed to said brush handle engageable with the lower end of 4 said rst named handle for limiting the retraction of the brushhandle with respect to said rst-named handle.
