UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STEPHEN O. BROWN ELL, OF LAPEER, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE HALF TO GEORGE H. SEELYE AND ALVIRAS W. ANNIS, BOTH OF SAME PLACE.
SLElGH-RUNNER.
QPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 333,918, dated January 5, 1886.
Application filed October 26, 1885.
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, STEPHEN O. BRO'WNELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lapeer, in the county of Lapeer and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sleigh-Runners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in sleigh-runners; and it has forits objects to provide a runner which may be readily attached to and detached from the axle of an ordinary vehicle, and which will be strong and durable. These objects I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective View of my improved runner, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal sectional view thereof.
The letterA indicatesarunner of bent wood, shod with a strip of iron or steel, B, and C a bent bow, of wood or other suitable material, having its ends mortised in the runner, as in dicated in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The top of the bow is provided with a flat seat, D, upon which rests the hub E. The said hub is constructed of a cylindrical piece of wood,
Serial No. 180,913. (No model.)
which is cut or gained transversely on its upper and lower sides, which are parallel with 30 each other. The hub thus formed rests upon the seat before mentioned at the top of the bow, the groove or lower gain therein oversetting the bow, as shown. In the upper groove or gain is set the rave,of wood or other 5 suitable material, F, which is secured to the forward end of the bent runner. The said rave E and the hub are securely fastened to the how by means of screw bolts or clips and nuts G, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. 40
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
The combination, in a sleigh-runner, of the arched how, the hub gained or grooved in 5 parallel planes above and below, and the connecting-rave and bolts or clips by which the whole is secured together, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in 5 presence of two witnesses.
STEPHEN G. BROWNELL.
