It will be understood as previously pointed out, that where the container and the top cover or lid of each of the hereinbefore-described assemblies are intended for use in cooking, they are formed of heat-resistant glass or of such other materials as glass ceramics, other suitable ceramic, refractory, plastic or metal materials which permit the container and the top cover to be subjected to temperatures normally encountered in connection with food cooking or baking operations without adverse effect on the container, on the cover, or on the food.

  • said intermediate snap-on cover member includes a rim at the radially outer periphery thereof, said rim including an inner wall in frictional sealing engagement with the inner surface of the container rim and an outer Wall in engagement with the outer surface of the container rim, said inner wall being normally elastically biased radially outwardly beyond the normally inner diameter of said container rim and being moved radially inwardly by contact with the inner wall of the container.
  • said snap-on cover member includes a rim having inner and outer walls connected by a top wall, said snap-on cover member including adjacent the radially outer periphery thereof a substantially U-shaped bellows-like depression including a radially outer leg portion joined at the lower ends thereof by a bridging portion, said U-shaped depression lying radially inwardly of the inner wall of the container with the radially outer leg portion bearing against the inner surface of the container rim in flexible sealing contact therewith, said rim of said cover member including an outer wall in frictional sealing engagement with the outer surface of the container rim, said top wall of the snap-on cover rim being in overlying relation to the container rim.
  • said snap-on cover member includes a rim portion having an inner wall frictionally engageable with the inner wall surface of the container rim, a spaced outer wall engageable with the outer wall surface of the container rim, and a top rim Iwall connecting said inner and outer walls, said inner wall being provided on the radially outer surface thereof with at least one .radially outwardly extending fiexible peripheral bead in sealing contact with the inner wall surface of the container rim.
  • said snap-on cover member includes a rim portion having an inner wall frictionally engageable with the inner wall surface of the container rim, a spaced outer wall engageable with the outer wall surface of the container rim, and a top rim wall connecting said inner and outer walls, said top wall being provided on the under surface thereof with at least one downwardly extending liexible bead in sealing ⁇ contact with the top surface of the container rim.
  • said snap-on cover member includes a rim portion having an inner wall frictionally engageable with the inner wall surface of the container rim, a spaced outer wall engageable with the outer wall surface of the container rim, ⁇ and a top rim Wall connecting said inner and outer walls, said container including a rim having an integral bead extending upwardly into sealing engagement with the under surface of said top rim wall of said cover member.
  • a container assembly for use in preparing, storing, cooking, or serving food, comprising an upwardly open container terminating at its upper end in a rim, a Snap-on intermediate cover member of flexible material including a peripheral rim and a fiat normally horizontal upper wall vin countersunk relation to said peripheral rim, said peripheral rim of said snap-on cover member engaging said rim of said container in sealing relation thereto, a top cover member, an edge means on said top cover member engaging cooperating edge means on said snap-on cover member, and downwardly extending rim means on said top cover member extending into the countersunk region above the horizontal wall of said snap-on cover member, to maintain said top cover memlber in assembled relation with said snap-on cover member and said container, whereby said container, said snapon cover member and said top cover member may be merchandised and stored as a unitary assembly.
  • a container assembly for use in preparing, storing, cooking, or serving food, comprising an upwardly open container terminating at its upper end in a rim, a snap-on intermediate cover of flexible material including a peripheral rim and a normally horizontal upper wall in countersunk relation to said peripheral rim, said peripheral rim -of said snap-on cover engaging said rim of said container in sealing relation thereto, a top cover including a downwardly extending rim which has an outwardly peripheral undercut portion defining an outwardly ⁇ peripheral edge, said peripheral edge on said vtop cover engaging cooperating edge means on said snapon cover, said downwardly extending rim exclusive of said outwardly peripheral edge extending into the countersunk region above the horizontal upper wall of said snap-on cover, to maintain said top cover in assembled relation with said snap-on cover and said container, whereby said container, said snap-on cover, and said top cover may be merchandised and stored as a unitary assembly.
  • a container assembly for use in preparing, storing, cooking, or serving food, comprising an upwardly open container terminating at its upper end in a rim, a snap-on cover of flexible material including a normally horizontal center wall terminating at its radially ⁇ outer edge in a peripheral rim having an inner and outer wall, Said peripheral rim of said snap-on cover engaging said rim of said container in sealing relation thereto, a top cover having a downwardly extending rim thereon and a iiange-like edge means, said snap-on cover including means cooperating with said top cover to maintain said top cover in assembled relation with said snap-on cover and said container, including a recess in said center wall of said snap-on cover conforming to and engagingly receiving said downwardly extending rim of said top cover and edge means on the inner wall of said snap-on cover engaging said flange-like edge means of said top cover, whereby said container, said snap-on cover, and said top cover may be merchandised and stored as a unitary assembly.
  • a container assembly for use in preparing, storing, cooking, or serving food, comprising a heat resistant container open at the upper end thereof, handle means extending from said container adjacent the upper end of said container, an intermediate snap-on cover of iiexible material detachably engaging the open upper end of said container in sealing relation to said container, said snap-on lcover including handle means conforming in shape to and engaging said handle means of said container, and a top cover of heat resistant material detachably engaging the upper end surface of said intermediate snap-on cover, whereby said container, said intermediate snap-on cover and said top cover may be merchandised and stored as a unitary assembly.
  • said intermediate snap-on cover includes a rim means including an inner wall in sealing engagement with the interior surface of the upper end of said container and an outer wall in sealing engagement with the outer surface of said container and the handles thereof.
  • a container assembly for use in preparing, storing, cooking, or serving food, comprising an upwardly open container of heat resistant material terminating at its upper end in a rim, handle means extending from said container adjacent the upper end thereof, an intermediate snap-on cover of iiexible material detachably engaging the open upper end of said container in sealing relation to said container, said snap-on cover including handle means conforming in shape to and engaging said handle means of said container, a top cover of heat resistant material detachably engaging the upper end surface of said snap-on cover, cooperating means on said snapon cover and on said top cover to permit said top cover to detachably engage said snap-on cover when said snapon cover is engaged with said container, whereby said container, said snap-on cover, and said top cover may be merchandised and stored as a unitary assembly.
  • a container assembly for use in preparing, storing, or serving food, comprising an upwardly open vcontainer terminating a-t its upper end in a rim, handle means extending from said container adjacent the upper end thereof, a continuous sealing bead extending radially outwardly from the rim of said container and from the peripheral edges of said handle means along the entire length of said rim and of said handle means, a snap-on cover of flexible material detachably engaging the open upper end of said container in sealing relation to said container, said snap-on cover including handle means conforming in shape to and embracing said handle means of said container, said snap-on cover including a peripheral rim including an inner rim wall in sealed engagement with the interior surface of said rim of said container and 17 an outer wall in sealed engagement with said continuous sealing bead.

  • said cover member includes a rim having inner and outer Walls connected by a top wall, said cover including adjacent the radially outer periphery thereof a substantially U-shaped bellows-like depression including a radially outer leg portion formed by the inner Wall of the cover rim and a radially inner leg portion joined at the lower ends thereof by a bridging portion, said U-shaped depression lying radially inwardly of the inner wall of the container with the radially outer leg portion bearing against t-he inner surface of the container rim in flexible sealing contact therewith, said rim of said cover member including an outer wall in frictional sealing engagement with the outer surface of the container rim, said top wall of the rim cover being in overlying relation to the container rim.

  • a container assembly comprising an upwardly open container having generally vertically disposed side walls terminating at its upper end in a rim, said rim being formed along a portion of the periphery thereof wit-h a laterally extending pouring lip, said pouring lip being defined lby merging portions of at least one of said side walls and which are non-planar to each other and to said side walls and a cover member of flexible material conforming in contour to said rim and said pouring lip and engaging said rim and said pouring lip in sealing relation.
