Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OGDEN P. IELL, OF FLUSHING, NET YORK, ASSIGNOR TO I'IIMSELF, AND ALFRED M. TREDIVELIJ, OF lMADISON, NET JERSEY.
IMPROVED LOUNGE AND CAMP-STOOL COMBINED.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 33,362, dated September 24,1861.
To aZl whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, OGDEN P. PELL, of Flushing, in the county of Queens and State of' New York, have invented, made, and applied to use an Improved Lounge and Camp- Stool Combined; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ot' my said invention, reference beinghad to thel annexed drawings, making part of this specilication, wherein- Figure l is a plan of my improved lounge. Fig. L is a side elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view ot' the center extension.
Similar marks of reference denote the same parts.
My invention consistsin an extension-sacking applied between and combined with two oamp-stools in such a manner that when put together a strong and comfortable lounge is provided that answers very well for a bedstead, in fact, becomes a camp-bedstead, and when taken apart t-he camp-stools are as con- Venient as they would be if not adapted to forming a bed.
In the drawings, a, ct are the cross or X legs ot' the camp-stools, b b are the upper rails, and
` c is the sacking.
At the ends of the rails b b, at one side of each stool, I provide metallic dovetail sockets l l, adapted to receive the dovetail ribs 2 2 on two ends of the rails d d, between which rails is the sacking or webbing c. It will be nouT seen that by the introduction of this center extension a camp-bedstead is produced from two camp-stools, and that these campstools are not in any manner injured for other purposes, and when not required as a bedstead the center section is disconnected and rolled up on one of the rails CZ4 d. It will be seen that the dovetails l and 2 afford great facility for connecting and disconnecting, and
that they are reliable in use, not being easily broken. However, I do not limit myself to these dovetail connections.
The center extension may be provided with holes in the side piecesd CZ to receive the ends ot long X-pieoes, so as to form a table when disconnected from the stools.
What I claim, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is-
The extension center piece formed of sacking or equivalent material between two side pieces that are provided with dovetails or other connections at their ends taking the parts of the camp-stools, in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my signature this 20th day of August, 186].
