Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
YILLIAM Il. TAMBLIXG, OF BERLIN, IVISCONSIN.
BED-BOTTOM.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 30,4132, dated October 16, 1860.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM I-I. TAM- BLING, of Berlin, in the county of Green Lake and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Bottoms; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to Vthe letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing and arranging the several parts of the bed substantially in the manner hereinafter mentioned.
In the annexed drawings Figure l is a bottom perspective of the bed. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section.
In the igures A and A, represent the side and end rails of the bed which may be provided with tenons which enter mortises in Jthe posts for holding them in place. In the under sides of the rails are made openings or holes into which the screws c, c, c, pass, as seen at o: o5, Fig. 2.
a, a, and a', a', represent slats which lie immediately under the side and end rails of the bed. The screws c, o, o, pass through these slats before their ends enter the bed rails. Those portions of the screws (their ends) which enter the rails have no threads cut upon them-said screws merely press against the rails.
B, represents the canvas which is secured to the side and end slats as represented in the drawing Fig. l, said canvas being made to fit the bed so that it will be snug and tight when stretched around the bed rails. Then the canvas becomes slack and loose it is readily tightened by turning the screws o, c, c, which cause the slats to recede from the bed rails thus stretching `the canvas tightly over the sides of the rails. The canvas may be tightened by this means either from the ends of the bed or from the sides or from both when needed.
By removing the screws the slats and canvas may readily be taken from the bed and cleansed. It is not necessary to have any other bed tastenings usually such as screws &c. for the canvas binds the bed very rmly together.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The employment of the slats o, a, and screws c, o, in connection with the canvas B, and the side, and end rails of the bed, arranged and constructed substantially as and for the purpose specied.
WILLIAM I-I. TAMBLING.
