HMPROVENHENT EN ATTACHING BEDS TO TENTS.

Speciication forming part of Letters Patent No. 34,255, dated January 2S, 1862.

To all whom, t may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD LYNCH, of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tents; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

In the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, A A A A represent four tentpoles, which are provided at their lower ends with pointed metallic ferrules, so that they may be made to enter the earth easily.

B represents a me-tallic disk, provided with ears or lugs c c on its under side. The upper ends of the poles A are provid ed with metallic tips with holes in them, and are secured beteen the lugs on the disk by means of pins passing through the lugs, and tips on the ends of the poles. The backs of the tips may be extended up and provided with `a shoulder, which will catch against the edge of the disk and prevent too much expansion of the bottoms of the poles.

D D represent two cross-bars, to each of which is secured a canvas bed. The beds are secured at one side to the bars and then their opposite sides are laced together, as shown in the figure. The bars are provided with pins on their under sides near iheir ends, which slip and fasten into staples or eyes upon the poles A. Two of the eyes, as shown at d d,

are secured to a slide, which moves up and down on the pole in order to adjust the parts when desirable. `The bars D D when secured in position serve to give the tent-poles more steadiness and strength than they would otherwise have.

I is a cord, which runs longitudinally of the bed, being fastened at each side and passing through a ring in a strap J, hanging from the disk B. The cord which laces the beds together also loops in the center and is passed through the ring of strap J at Y I-I H are two cords, which run crosswise of the beds at their edges and are provided with rings, which catch on hooks attached to the poles.

It will be readily seen that when the canvas is thrown over this skeleton frame a very comfortable, convenient, and economical tent is formed. One ortwo beds may be thus formed, or more, if necessary, and these beds may be kept tight and comfortable for sleeping in with very little trouble.

These beds may be used, also, for a table, and they may be very easily removed and returned to position whenever necessary.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The arrangement of the beds E E, the bars D, the strap J, and the cords H I, as and for the purpose herein specified.

2. The employment of the slides d d, with loops or staples attached, used in connection With the bars D D, in the manner and for the purpose herein specified.
