UNITED STATES PATENT QEEICE.
ISAAC B. SEELEY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SLEIGH SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 333,426, dated December 29, 1885.
Application liled March 31, 1885.
To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, IsAAo B. SEELEY, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sleigh-Shoes, which improvement is fully set forthin the following specification and accompanying drawings,in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a sleigh-shoe embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section thereof on an enlarged scale. Fig. 3 represents a top view of a portion thereof on an enlarged scale. Fig. 4 represents a vertical section of a modification.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists of a detachable shoe for a sleigh, the saine being adapted to receive the runner ofthe sleigh and attachable there` to, whereby the sleigh rides with ease, and other advantages are presented, as will be Referring to the drawings, A represents a sleigh (shown in dotted lines) of well-known form and construction.
Brepresents a shoe, which is recessed on its upper face and formed of wood, conformingin a measure to the shape of the runner, the recess being adapted to receive the runner, whereby the sleigh rides on the shoe, it being evident that each runner is provided with a shoe of the above nature. Connected with the shoe is a yoke, C, which encircles the shoe, as in Fig. 2, or is fitted within the shoe and riveted l Serial No. 160,753. (No model.)
thereto, as in Fig. 4, and the top of the said yoke is provided with a cross-head, D, for holding a screw, E, which tightens against the runner of the sleigh.
It will be seen that the shoes may be readily applied to and removed from the runner of the sleigh, as desired, and when they are required for service the runners are fitted in the recesses of the shoes and the screws E properly tightened, whereby the shoes and runners are connected as one.
In the use of the sleigh the shoes constitute the runners, and provide broad surfaces on which the sleigh runs and avoids Contact of metal runners with the snow-a feature of great importance when the snow is light and the sleigh runs on bare ground-the wooden shoes coming in contact with the latter, adapting the sleigh to run with ease, and they add strength to the runners at such times. When the shoes are not required, they may be removed by loosening the screws E, it being noticed that the sleigh remains intact and may be used in the usual manner.
Having thus described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A shoe for a sleigh-runner, having a longitudinal groove or recess, and provided with a yoke, C, cross-head D, and screw E, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
, ISAAC B. SEELEY.
