CLOTHES LINE HOLDER. N0. 318,182. Patented May 19, 1885.
%WITNESSES J/NgNTQR %@Z w w ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS CHARLES GUHL, OF ROSELAN D, ILLINOIS.
CLOTHES-LINE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 318,182, dated May 19, 1885.
' Application filed July 12, 1884.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs CHARLES GUHL, of Roseland, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Clothes-Line Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved holder or clamp for holding clothes-lines securely without requiring any knotting or tying.
The invention consists in the combination, with a bracket, of a clamping-plate hinged to the bottom of the same, and a screw pivoted in the free end of the Olam'pingplate, and which screw is provided with a locking-nut.
The invention also consists in various parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully set forth hereinafter.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification,in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved clothes-line holder, the same being open. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same closed. Fig. 8 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 4 is a sectional View on the line as 00, Fig. 2.
A bracket, A, is provided in its bottom and at its free end with a transverse piece, A, in the bottom of which a longitudinal groove, a, is formed, and a short distance in front of the groove a downwardly-projecting lugs b are formed on the under side of the piece A. From the top and outer edge of the piece A two lugs, d, project in such a manner as to be adapted to receive between them a screw-bolt, B, hinged on the forked free end of a clamping-plate, C, which has its inner end also forked, this forked end being hinged to the bottom of the bracket A behind the crosspiece A.
The clamp-plate O is provided in its top with a groove, 9, which coincides with the groove on when the piece A and the clamp (ModcL) plate 0 are brought together. In front of the groove 9 the clamping-plate O is provided with offsets or shoulders h, which are directly behind the lug b when the clamp-plate C is held up against the piece A. The bottoms of the grooves a g are undulated to prevent the rope D from slipping. A winged nut, E, is mounted on the screw B. The rope is placed in the groove 9, the plate 0 is swung up against the bottom of the bracket, the screw B is swung up between the jaws d, and the winged nut E and thereby the plate 0 is pressed against the bottom of the bracket- A, and the rope is clamped firmly between the bracket and the plate 0. The rope can thus be fastened or released very easily and rapidly.
Having thus described my invention.I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a clothes-line holder, the combination, with the bracket having upon its under side upon its upper side parallel lugs, of the plate hinged to the bracket, and having upon its upper side a recess or cavity, and the bolt pivoted to the outer free end of the said plate and fitting between the upper lugs of the bracket, said bolt having a holding-nut, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a clothes-line holder, the combination, with the bracket having upon its under side, a recess or cavity and lugs near one end, and upon its upper side parallel lugs, of the hinged plate having a recess or cavity upon its upper surface, offsets upon its sides, and a forked outer free end,and the bolt pivoted between the forked end of the said plate and fitting between upper lugs or jaws of said bracket, said bolt having a winged nut, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
LOUIS CHARLES GUHL.
