Description

'lime, twenty-six gallons coal-tar, one hundred UNITED STATES JOSEPH STACKHOUSE, OF
MIXED STOCKTON, OALIFORN IA.
PAINT.
FEPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 333,169, dated December 29, 1885.
Application filed August 10,1885. Serial No. 173,988. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH STACKHOUSE, a citizen of Great Britain, residing at Stockton, in the county of San Joaquin and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mixed Paints, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to paint compounds, and is particularlyfor use upon roofs of buildings and decks of ships and other structures exposed to the action of rain and sunshine.
Its object is to furnish a cheap and lasting paint compound with fire and water proof properties.
My compound consists of the following ingredients in about the relative proportions stated, to wit: three quarts dry fresh air-slaked and fortypounds Princes metallic, ten gallons coal-oil, one gallon brown japan, one pound baking soda dissolved in a mixture of half gallon water and one pint benzine, and onehalf gallon shellac. The Princes metallic is iron ore ground to a fine powder by the firm of Prince Brothers, and is claimed to contain ninety-five per cent. of pure iron. These ingredients are to be thoroughly mixed by agitation, and then applied as required.
The advantages of the above-described compound are that it will not peel off in extreme heat of the sun, and will notignite from sparks or coals of fire, and is thoroughly water-proof.
What I claim is- The herein-described mixed paint, consisting of dry fresh air-slaked lime, coal tar, Princes metallic, coal-oil, brown japan, baking-soda, water and benzine, and shellac, in about the relative quantities described and set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH STAOKHOUSE.
