OLIVER S. BEALE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN FIRE-PROOF PAINTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,825, dated June 9, 1874 application filed May 13, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OLIVER S. BEALE, of Boston, in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a certain compound called Beales Improved Fire-Proof Paint, to be used more especially for roof and other out side parts of buildings, whether of Wood or other material, of which the following is a Y specification:
be substantially preserved: Mingle twenty gallons of coal-tar, two and one-half gallons boiled linseed-oil, two gallons dead-oil, two quarts japan, one pound litharge, five pounds whiting, and five pounds ground slate; and to this mixture add two pounds bicarbonate of soda, four pounds common salt, two pounds chloride of lime, and two pounds sulphate of iron, each dissolved separately in water, using only so much water as will efl'ectually accomplish the solution. Mingle the mass thoroughly by agitation, stirring, or in any way.
This composition penetrates the wood or other material, so as to completely adhere, and forms an enduring paint, which not only efl'ectually protects the wood from the decay resulting from the exposure to the weather, but substantially prevents its taking fire from flying sparks or temporary flame. The tar thus mixed will not run in the sun, and is substantially deodorized.
