Description
June 27, l1967 R. l.. BLAIR HANGER FOR BRASSIERES AND THE LIKE Filed Feb. 16, 1966 United States Patent O 3,327,912 HANGER EUR; BRASSMERES AND THE LIKE Ronald L. Blair, 2650 W. Beiden Ave Chicago, Ill. 60647 Filed Feb. 16, 1966, Ser. No. 527,914 3 Claims. (Cl. 223-85) This invention relates to a hanger for brassieres and the like.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a hanger for brassieres which will support a brassiere in an open and extended position, This facilitates the drying of the brassiere when laundered and also permits the circulation Iof air around the brassiere when supported in an extended and open position on the hanger. It also permits the brassiere to be aired between wearings, helps remove the perspiration and body odors, and also helps to preserve and maintain the freshness of the brassiere.
Other objects will become apparent as this description progresses.
In the drawings:
FIG. l is a View of the hanger forming this invention and showing it supporting a conventional brassiere.
FIG. 2 is a side View of FIG. 1, and
FIG. 3 is a view partly in section taken on line 3-3 of FIG. 1.
The hanger is formed essentially of two wire members, each of which is preshaped and which are brazed together. The wire members are formed preferably of lirm wire having a degree of resiliency. The vertical wire member is indicated by the numeral and same is shaped to form a hook portion 12 at the top with a continuing stem portion 14 which at its lower end is bent upwardly to form a bottom hook member 16. The hook member 16 extends in a plane at right angles to the hook 12. The upward and forward bend 18 of the hook 16 is turned inwardly and then outwardly as at 20 and is spaced from the stem 14 to provide a space 22 therebetween.
The horizontal wire member is generally indicated at 24 and said member is shaped to form strap retaining means generally indicated at 25 at its opposite ends. The strap retaining means is formed by looping the opposite ends inwardly as at 26 and then turning same downwardly and inwardly to form portions 28 which are substantially horizontal and parallel with the horizontal member 24, but spaced therefrom as at 30 and terminating in upwardly extending ends 32. The space 30 is sufficient to permit the brassiere straps to be inserted or slid through. The horizontal and vertical members of the hanger are brazed together as at 31.
As shown in the drawings, the brassiere generally indicated at 34 is positioned on the hanger so that the front center portion 36 of the brassiere between the breast cups 33 is inserted to be positioned in the bottom hook member 16. The straps 40 of the brassiere extend upwardly and are inserted in the spaces 30 to be held by the retaining means 25. As shown, the breast pockets 38 are supported to extend across the bottom of the hanger, with the same being fully supported by the lower forwardly extending hook 16. The straps 40 extend upwardly and are retained ICC in the horizontally extending strap retaining means 25, with the rear ends of the straps extending downwardly therefrom. There is suicient resiliency in the bend 26 of the strap retaining means Z5 to prevent any accidental slipping of the straps from the retaining means and, therefore, they are firmly retained. The straps may be readily inserted and removed from said retaining means. The hanger with the brassiere is supported on a rod by means of the hook 12.
With this invention the brassiere is supported in an open and extended position and air is permitted to circulate in and around the brassiere so that same may dry after laundering and so that perspiration and body odors may be quickly dissipated between wearings. The hanger also serves to hold the brassiere in a manner which will best preserve its shape.
While this invention is described in connection with a brassiere it will be understood that it may be used to support a womans undergarment such as a slip, in which the straps of the slip are secured by the strap retaining means 25.
It will be understood that Various changes and modifications may be made from the foregoing without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A hanger for brassieres and the like comprising, a single horizontal member and a separate single vertical member, said vertical member being secured to said horizontal member centrally of said horizontal member to form a generally cross-shaped conguration and having a hook at the upper end thereof, said vertical member having a hook at its lower end a substantial distance below the horizontal member, said hook supporting that portion of the brassiere which extends between the breast cups so that the breast cups are positioned below and spaced out of engagement or contact with the horizontal member, said horizontal member having each of its opposite ends turned inwardly upon the horizontal member to each receive and retain the straps of the brassiere against slippage.
2. A hanger dened in claim 1 in which the plane of the upper hook of the Vertical member is at right angles to the plane of the lower hook of said vertical member.
3. kA hanger delined in claim 1 in which the horizontal and vertical members are wire materials and are brazed together.
