WAGON-TONGUE iRON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,766, dated December 22. 1885.

To all whom t may concern.: l
Be it known that I, OLIVER VANORMAN, of Rockford, in the county of Vinnebagqand in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagon-Tongue Irons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to holdback-irons for wagon-tongues, and will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of my improved holdback-'iron, and Fig. 2 is a like view of the front end of a wagon-tongue with one of my irons in place thereon.
A is the tongue, which is slotted vertically to receive the web B of my improved iron, which latter has a ange, B', at top, and a similar flange, B2, at the bottom, which after the web has been inserted in the'tongue are to be bent over so as to clamp it and conform to its shape, forming wear-irons. The lug b for the neck-yoke ring depends from the under side of the ange B2, and from a front iange, e, the clevis C extends.
My iron is cast entirely in one piece, and when in place on the tongue is secured by a bolt or rivet,D,that passes through the tongue and an opening, d, in the web.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article ofmanufacture, a holdbackiron for wagon-tongues, consisting of a central web adapted for insertion into a slot in the tongue, and anges that clamp the tongue from above and below, alug for the neck-yoke ring on its under side, and a clevis in front, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I l have hereunto set my hand,at Rockford, in the county of Winnebago and State of Illinois, in the presence of two witnesses.
