Description

GLOVE FASTENING. No. 332,763. Patented Dec. 22, 188.5;

} WITNESSES I INVENTOR wa zdj flomms;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUSTUS TRAVER, on NEW YORK, AND HENRY B. PTERSON, or BROOKLYN, N. Y.
GLOVE-FASTEN l NG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,763, dated December 22, 1 885- Application tiled April 5, 1884. Serial No. 126,777.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, AUGUSTUS TRAVER, of the city, county, and State of New York, and HENRY B. PIERsON, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Glove-Fastening, of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description.
The object of our invention is to provide a new and improved glove-fastening, by means of which a glove can be closed very easily and readily, and can also be opened very easily.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is an inside view of a glove provided with our improved fastening. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the fastening device, parts being shown in section. Fig. 3 is aside view of the headed stud. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the spring-ring to be secured in the button-hole.
In the upper flap, A, of a glove, A, one or more holes, B, are formed along the edge. A spring-ring, 0, made of metal or any other suitable spring material, metal being preferred, is placed against the edge of each hole, and is secured to the same by threads a, passed through the flap A and around the ring 0.
To prevent the threads from cutting the leather, they are also passed through one or more layers, D, of fabric or lining placed against the inner surface of the flap along the edge. The ring is sewed in place by means of a button-hole sewing-machine or any other suitable machinery. On the flap A a series of studs, E, is secured to project from the upper surface, which studs are provided at the upper ends with ball-heads F, which are slightly larger than the inner diameter of the completed and sewed button-holes B.
If the glove is to be closed and fastened, the flap Ais brought over the flap A and pressed (No model.)
down on the same at the button-holes, so that the heads F of the studs E will be forced through the button-holes, as shown in Fig. 2,
the spring-rings O expanding or giving sufficiently to let the heads pass. As soon as the heads have passed, the rings 0 contract or draw together slightly, and thus hold the flaps together and prevent them from separating.
If the glove is to be opened, the flap A is raised and pulled upward, the force exerted being sufficientto draw the heads F out of the button-holes.
The above-described fastening is very simple and effective, and can be used on shoes, garments, carriage-curtains, &c., as well as on gloves, and can be made of any suitable size.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with a pieceof material having a button-hole, of an open spring ring or band held along the edge of the hole by threads passed through the material and around the spring strip or wire, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination, with a glove, of open spring rings or hands along the edges of the bottom holes, fabric layers or lining D, held on the under surface of the glove, and of threads passed through the glove and fabric and around the spring bands or ring, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. The combination, with aglove having one or more holes along the edges of one flap, of open spring rings or bands held along the edges of the holes by threads passed through the glove and around the spring rings or bands, and of ball-headed studs E, held' on the edge of the other flap, substantially as herein shown and described.
AUGUSTUS TRAVER. HENRY B. PIERSON.
