WAlST-BELT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,624, dated December 15, 1885.

Be it known that I, MAX RUBIN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Waist- Belts, of which the following is aspeciication.

This invention relates to an improved waistbelt for ladies7 use, which can be conveniently adjusted to any size of waist, and quickly applied and removed 5 and the invention consists of a waist-belt the outer end of which is provided with one or more fixed buttons or tongues, while the inner` end is provided with a pivoted buckle having a recess or recesses forlocking the shanks of said buttons or tongues, a guide-plate for adjusting thebuckle on the inner end of the belt, and a clampingplate pivoted to said guide-plate at the rear of the belt.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 2o represents a front elevation of my improved waist-belt. Figs. 2 and 3 are respectively a front view and a rear View of the inner end of the belt; and Figs. 4. and 5, respectively, a vertical transverse section on line rv, and a 2 5 horizontal section on line 1/ y, Fig. l.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a Waist-belt strap for ladies use, which is made of leather or other suitable material, and provided at its outer end with one or more buttons or tongues, a, that are rigidly attached by a pronged base-plate, b, to the outer end of the belt. A guide-plate, B, provided with backwardlybent ears c, is applied to the inner end of the belt-strap A by means of a clampingplate, C, having laterally-projecting pivotpins d, to which said gnide-plate is pivoted. rIhe clamping-plate C is preferably serrated, so as to bite into the belt and retain the guideplate rigidly in position thereon.

To the pivot-pins d of the clamping-plate C is also pivoted, in front of the belt-strap, a buckle-plate, D, which is adapted to swing into contact with or away from the belt-strap. This buckleplate is provided with an enlarged recess, e, at its inner edge, to permit the pas sage of the button head or hook when the buckle-plate is swung open or at right angles to the strap, and with a smaller recess, f, to engage the shank of the tongue or button buckle-plate from the shank of the button or (No model.)

When the belt is to be used, the clampingplate C is swung out at right angles, or nearly so, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 5, and the inner end of the belt-strap is then passed between the guide-plate B and said clampingplate, being adjusted to suit the waist to be encircled. The clamping-plate is then swung into contact with the belt-strap, causing the scrrations of the former to bite into and firmly hold the latter. The buckle plate is then swung out on its pivots at right angles, or nearly so, on the inner end of the beltestrap, and the outer end of the latter with its tongue or button is passed through the recess of said plate, and then the buckle-plate is swung into contact with the belt-strap and on a slight expansion of the holder engages the shank of 7o the tongue or button, as shown in Fig. l, whereby the belt is locked.

In opening the belt the outer end of the belt strap is pulled slightly to release the hook. Said plate is then swung out at right angles to the strap, and the inner end of the belt pulled through the buckle-plate.

A waist-belt is thus obtained which can be quickly set to the proper size of the waist and quickly applied and locked thereto without perforating any part of the belt.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The combination, with the inner end of a belt-strap, of a guide plate, means for adjusting said guide-plate, a buckle-plate pivoted to said guide-plate and having a recess at its inner edge, andafixed tongue or button attached to the outer end of the waist belt, substantially as set forth.
