UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT D. SIKES, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
BELT-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,449, dated December 15, 1885.
Application filed October .24, 1885.
.To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT D. SIKEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bufi'alo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to certain improvements in belt-fasteners, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View illustrating the manner of securing my improved fastener to the ends of the belt. Fig. 2 is a side view of the belt and fastener, and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the same.
Referring to the drawings, a a are the two ends of the belt or driving-band to be united. b b b areaseries of curvedlinks (two or more) having at their ends the eyes or slots b I). These eyes I) are passed through oblong holes cut in the ends of the belt, as clearly shown in Fig.1, so that the eyes on either side are in line with each other. Through these eyes b are inserted the rods 0 0, connected at one end by the bow or curved portion c, which with the Serial No. 180,799. (No model.)
The functions of the bow or curved portion 0 are to form a handle for readily adjusting the rods 0 0 within the eyes I), and also to hold the same in such position against accidental displacement. For further security, the outer ends can be turned inwardly, as at c 0*. It will then be seen that with my improved fastener the ends of the belt may be quickly and securelyjoined together, and when in position is not liable to be displaced accidentally, but can be readily removed, if desired, by simply pulling upon the bowed portion 0, when the rods 0 c are quickly released.
I am aware that a belt-fastener with curved links and separate rods having enlarged ends is old,and I do not, therefore, lay claim to such construction; but
\Vhat I do claim is A belt-fastener consisting of the series of curved links b,with end eyes, I), and the rods 0 c, with the bow or curved portion 0, conmeeting the same to form a handle for inserting the rods 0 0 within the eyes I), or withdrawing the same therefrom, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALBERT D. SIKES.
