VENTILATING- HAT AND CAP.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, JOHN O. BLYTHE, of Gern'iantown, in the city of Philadelphia and county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and usetnl and improved Ventilating Cap or Hat; and I do hereby decla-re that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ofthe same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 .is a perspective view ot the side et' the cap; Fig. 2 a perspective view ot the back part of the cap; Fig. 8 side view of a. hat; Figs. el, 5, and (3, perspective views of attachments or hinges for the cap or hat; Fig. 7, screw and nut.

@-7) in Figs. l, 2, 3 are the two sections into which the cap is divided, a-fc being the upper section and the lower; o o the space or opening between them, the cap sections being set apart by the attachments (1 -CZ.

The cap or hat is made in two sections the upper shutting closely down over the under section and resting" on the attachments. The attachments are placed onthe inside or outside of the cap as seen in Fig. l-marled Z- Z- one on each side and one back as seen in Fig. 2-

and in the model they are secnred by screw and nut as seen in No. 7. Each of the attachments has a projection or shoulder against which the arm strikes on being reversed and holds the cap sections apart as seen in Fig. 2 of attachment dfcZ E. The same is also seen in Figs. 4; and -cZ-E. By operating these attachments the cap may be opened at the rear and closed in front or open in front and closed back or open on one side and closed on the other or all open all around. The top of the cap may be made broad so as to torni a complete shade for thehead, and the connection between rf.- and E may be iliade ot' loose cloth so that the broad top may be thrown forward or back or on either side atording protection from sun; and the cap being thrown open and held by the attachments ventilation is con plete the head being protected and kept cool in the hottest sunshine.

The cap or hat may be made of any, and of the lightest materials suitable andthe attachment also.`
