PICTURE-BUTTON.

Speccaton of Letters Patent No. 38,038, dated August 13, 1861.

' To all whom it may concer/n:

Be it known that I, R. E. HITCHCOCK, of 5 /Vaterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and mproved Picture-Button; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reterence being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l, represents a vertical central section of a button or medal with two pictures. Fig. 2, is an inverted plan of one ot its parts detached. Fig. 3, isa vertical central section of a button with one picture.

Similar letters in the three figures indicate corresponding parts.

To enable those skilled in the art to malte and use my invention I will proceed to describe it with reference to the drawing.

My buttons or medals are made ot two parts. The medals are made o'l two rims A, A, such as 'represented in Fig. 2, which consists of a cup shaped piece a, of sheet iron, to which a piece of cloth or velvet of the desired color is fastened by an eye c, of brass having its edges bent over on both sides as clearly shown in Figs. l, and 2, or in any other desirable manner. Cue oic the two rims is a little lsmaller than the other as clearly shown in Fig. l, so that the cloth or velvet coverings I), can be turned over the edges of the cup shaped piece a, and the rim A', can now be inserted into the rim A, and if both are pressed together, the cloth or velvet is firmly retained between the inner cup a. and the outer cup a. Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent as an improved article of manufacture, is,
