EBENEZER S. PERRY, OF N EVV BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
CAR-VENTILATOR.
QPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 329,591, dated November 3, 1885.
Q Application filed September 5, 1885.
' Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Oar-Ventilators, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a ventilator which, while it allows the air to pass through it freely, will intercept foreign matter-such as dust, cinders, 850.; and it com sists in the arrangement with regard to each other of peculiarly-shaped slats, and in providing openings in the sides of the ventilator, in order that a current of air may traverse the ventilator longitudinally and remove the accumulations of dust, cinders, &c., which have been intercepted in the passage of the air through the ventilator.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved ventilator. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same, showing the arrangement of the slats. Fig. 3 is an end or side View showing the openings in the sides through which a current of air moves to clear the ventilator from accumulations of dust,&c. Fig. 4 shows the shape of the majority of the slats which enter into the construction of the ventilator, and Fig. 5 shows a rear elevation of the ventilator.
In Fig. 5,A is the base or back of the ventilator, provided with openings 0, to which base are attached the other parts which compose it. The slats a, Fig. 1, are attached by one edge to the upper edge of the openings 0, and are inclined outwardly and downwardly. Near the outer edge of the slats a are attached by their straight edges the slats a, so as to form an angle with the slats a, the points of their lower edges resting against the base A, or the upper surface of the slat a next below them, as is clearly shown in Fig. 2.
To the lower edges of the openings 0 in the base A are attached the slats b, Fig. 4, by their straight edges. These slats project outwardly and downwardly, and their points reach to and are fastened at the intersection of the slats a and a, as is shown in Fig. 2.
Serial No. 176,232. (No model.)
To the under side of the slats b,and to their edges 1), are attached by their straight edges slats d, which are of the same shape as slats b, but of less width. The slatsd are attached to the slats b at an angle, and their points extend to and are fastened to the base A, as shown in Fig. 2.
The sides 6 of the ventilator are provided with openings (1, corresponding in size and shape to the angle formed by the slats b and d and base A.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1 In a ventilator, the combination, with the base A, provided with openings-O, one above the other, of the slats a, attached at one edge to the upper edge of the openings 0, and extending outwardly at an angle to base A, the slats a, attached to slats a so as to form an angle therewith, the slats 12, attached to the lower edges of openings 0, and the sides 0 at each end of the slats a, substantially as described.
2. In a ventilator, the combination, with the base A, having openings O,one above the other, of the slats a, attached at one edge to the upper edge of the openings, and extending outwardly at an angle to base A, the slats a, attached to slats a so as to form an angle therewith, the slats I), attached to the lower edges of openings 0, and the sides 0 at each end of the slats a, provided with openings 01, substantially as described.
3. In a ventilator, the combination, with the base A, having openings G,one above the other, of the slats (0, attached at one edge to the upper edge of the openings 0, and extending outwardly at an angle to base A, the slats a, attached to slats a at an angle thereto, the slats (Z, attached to the base A and to the under side of slats b, and the sides 6 at each 9 Witnesses:
