Description
mmel) A. M. ROSGOE.
DOOR SILL. No. 328,814. Patented 0013.. 20, 1885.
ALLISON MONROE ROSCOE, OF DU BOIS, PENNSYLVANIA.
DOOR-SILL.
GPBCIEIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. $28,81 dated October 20, 1885,
Application filed August 13, 1885. Serial No. 174,300. (N 0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALLIsoN M. Rosoon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Du Bois, in the county of Olearfield and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Sills; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and on act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and totheletters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My present invention relates to improvements in door-sills, and has for its object to provide a door-sill which will be so constructed that it can be partially re1noved,wh en so desired, for the purpose of sweeping or scrubbing the floor, all of which will be fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings annexed hereto, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my improved door-sill in position. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail plan view of the sill, the parts being slightly separated.
A represents the door, A the door-jambs, and A the main sill, all of ordinary construction.
My door-sill is composed of three sections, B B B The end sections, B B are rigidly secured to the main sill or floor by screws, nails, or other similar means, and are made to fit the jambs and lie close against them when in use. Their inner ends, B B*, are beveledin the same direction, as shown. The middle section, B, is placed between and removably held by the end sections, B B
The ends of the sections B are beveled to correspond with the beveled ends of the sections B B One of the end sections, B, is provided with a button, spring-latch, or similar device, which engages a suitable notch or its equivalent in the section B, and holds the same from accidental displacement. In. the drawings I have shown a button, 0.
The advantages of my device are obvious.
By using my sill there will be no collecting of the dust around the edges of the doorway, as is the case with the ordinary sill in common use.
Thebeveled ends of the sections are slightly curved from edge to edge, and serve to hold said section in proper engagement.
The middle section can be easily lifted out and replaced, and the entire sill can be so proportioned as to fit snugly against the un der side of the door, thereby acting as a weather-strip.
E is a bolt-hole, provided for the door-bolt usually placed at the bottom of store-doors.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 18-
l. A door-sill made in sections, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. A doorsill made in sections, two of which are rigidly secured to the floor or main sill of the door-frame, substantially as specified.
3. A sectional door-sill composed of two end sections rigidly secured to the floor or main sill, and a third section placed between and removably held by the rigid sections, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
4:. In a sectional door-sill, the combination of the two rigid sections suitably secured, a third section removably held between the rigid sections, and a spring-latch, button, or other similar device secured in one of the rigid sections and engaging the removable sections, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALLISON MONROE ROSOOE.
