Description

(No Model P. GOUTEVENIER.
VENTILATED MATTRESS. No. 327,677. Patented oen. 6, 1885.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER GOUTEVENIEE, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, AssIGNoE or ONE-HALE To B. rr. voTE, or sAME PLACE.
VENTILATED MATTRESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 327,677, dated October 6, 1885.
Application tiled July 2, 1884. Serial No. 136,659.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER GOUTEVENIER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain Improvement in Ventilated Mattresses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of bedmattresses in which provision is made to permit of the circulation of a current of air through the body of the mattress, in order to properly air the same, and my improvement has for its object to furnish an improved covering or enveloping fabric which will readily and effectually permit of the passage of eurrents of air through the mattress-thing, to keep the same dry and remove any dampness that may occur in the same by use. I attain such object by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which represents in perspective view aportion of a mattress involving my improved construction. As represented in the drawing, the present invention consists in forming the covering or enveloping cloth or tickingA of a mattress with a series of reticulated openings, c, a greater or less distance apart, the reticulations ofsaid openings being formed bya series of threads arranged some distance apart, as shown, and so formed, preferably, during the process of weaving the fabric.
(No model.)
By the use of such covering fabric as above described a circulation of air throughout the lling B of the mattress will constantly take place to keep the same dry and remove any 3- wet or dampness in the same caused by use.
I am aware that prior to my invention seats have been provided with removable perforated oovers of leather, &c.; also, that lifesaving mattresses have been formed with hol- 4o low connecting-tubes that permitted of air passing through them for Ventilating purposes. I therefore do not claim such constructions, broadly; but
W'hat I do claim, and desire to secure by 45 Letters Patent, is-
1. As an improved article of manufacture,
a covering fabric for mattresses formed with a series of reticulated openings, essentially as set forth. 5
2. A mattress composed of a filling, B, and an enveloping fabric, A, formed with aseries of reticulated openings, a, essentially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof witness my hand this 5 5 29th day of April, 1884.
PETER GOUTEVENIER.
