FOOT-SCRAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 327,182, dated September 29, 1885.
Application filed February 28, 1885.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP M. LUTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Springfield, in the county of Greene andState of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foot-Scrapers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in Scrapers for cleaning shoes, &c., the object of which is to provide a cheap, simple, and durable device for conveniently cleaning all parts of the shoe. These objects I attain by means of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which* Figure l is a view in elevation of the entire device.
A represents the frame of the device, and is preferably molded or formed of one piece of iron or other suitable material, which has a piece of rubber or other flexible substance, G, attached to one side of the arch B2, preferably the front side, so that the frame will be on the side next to the person using the device. Said piece G is preferably formed to iit the arch and to project below it, as shown. It is secured by any suitable means. preferably by means of bolts or rivets passing through the holes bb b of the arch. Said frame consists of a part, a', having holes a2, by means of which it is nailed, screwed, or bolted in the desired position, and the part a, which is cut or molded to form the combined scrapers'herein described.
B is a recess in the shape of a stirrup for receiving the foot and cleaning the bottom of the same on the straight edge B, and then by raising the foot it is cleaned on the top by the flexible arch-shaped piece G.
D is a projection on either one, or it may be, if desired, placed on both sides of the stirrup, as shown, D D. They are cut or molded so as to form concave receptacles G G, for tting and cleaning the upper back parts of the heels (No model.)
and the instep of the shoe. Said projections are preferably provided with a rounded corner, d, and a sharp projecting corner, d', for rmoving any mud that may remain on the s oe.
E is a projection having a straight edge, e, on the lower side, and a concave side, e2, and a sharp point, e, for entering the crevices and cleaning between the upper4 side of the projecting part ofthe soles and the upper-leather ofthe shoe, and also to remove the mud from the sides ofthe shoe.
The device is strengthened by means of the enlargements or bars a3, which may extend up from the back a to the piece G, and may, if desired, encircle the arch and reach the foot or bar part a on each side.
For more fully cleaning the shoes, the scrapers are all made with edges having bevels on the side next to the person using the device.
Thus l have a simple device which will conveniently clean all parts of the shoe.
Having thus described my invention and the Inode ofits operation, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A boot and shoe scraper composed of a frame forming a base, c', and a top, a,'saidtop being composed of the scrapers B G and O O and the point E, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination of a plate having a stirrup-shaped opening, B, having an edge, B', for cleaning the bottom of a shoe, a concave recess, O, for cleaning the instep and back part of t-he heel, and a projection, E, having a straight edge, e, concave edge e2, and a sharp point, e', for cleaning the upper edge of the extending sole and the sides of the uppers, and an arch-shaped flexible piece, G, secured to an arch, B2, for cleaning the top of the shoe, all substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
